Maybe too old --or too obscure-- a pop-culture reference. It was quite the "cult" thing back when I was still in short pants.
 
I have no idea, but it is the general shape of that picture. A drawing instruction thing? A make-your-own constellation thing?
 
The Pipe Smoker is JR Bob Dobbs from the Church of the Subgenius

The symbol is a stylised version of his face and is the church symbol.

EDIT - aargh! I've just clicked AN's "sigh" where he reveals all.

The ball is "Wilson" Tom Hanks companion on Cast Away.

And I have Messengers identity now as well, but that is nothing to do with this thread
 
Oh. I've read about the Church of the Subgenius briefly, but there were no pictures.
 
I vaguely recognised the logo but I couldn't place it at all. "Bob Dobbs" I know, there were stickers of him everywhere in Brighton back in the day.

I just kept thinking of a papal cross since that was the only line with three strikes through it I could imagine. Oh well, all is revealed anyway..

The Wilson one was easy.
