IF archiving had to happen in the MF, what should be archived?

Would it help if we divided up the pages in the MF and then each of us take a few pages and post links to the threads that may be archive candidates? I DON'T KNOW! lol That may only work if you make the forum read only for a few hours. Anyway, I have time to help but I don't know what to do.
 
I had a similar thought, Cassie, though it would be a bugger to administrate. In an ideal world you'd have some sort of rating system where each MFer gives a number of stars for each thread and whichever threads accumulate the most stars definitely stay, while any that get zero stars are counted as not being important to the Mine Field and are deleted.

Of course, I'd trust Menty or of the other regulars to go through the threads on their own if it was easier that way. We're all on the same wavelength.
 
YES the wavelength that says EVERYTHING SHOULD STAY- well almost everything, some of the shit isn't MF worthy or even posted by a MF'r.
 
I have no problem deleting the spam (Gagh posted some excellent examples) it's just knowing which of the remaining threads should be archived and which should be left "active". I wouldn't have a problem with all my story for the day/thing of the day type threads being archived since no one ever bumps them anyway and if anyone wants to read them again they'll still be in the archives (and I can do a "best of Wacky" therad linking to the best ones...YES, MORE SELF PROMOTION.)
 
I think appointing some of us as temporary moderators who can archive and delete items in THIS FORUM ONLY has merit.

Use this thread to discuss and agree with the others what needs to go, and then there's at least one of us around on a regular basis to press the buttons and MAKE IT SO.

Looking through the forum, the years 2003-2005 only take up pages 304-454. The majority of posts are from 2006-2007.

There are 29 pages of no-reply threads, that's almost 1,500 that can go right off the bat. Just sort out and save any "Thing of the Day" threads from that and delete.

Also if you do a sort by Thread name, a lot of the silly spam threads come up first by virtue of symbols starting the thread titles instead of coherent language. They can go.
 
lol... I just realized something. I can only see about 8 pages of the MF! I can't remember what to do to make all threads appear.. I WILL FIGURE IT OUT.

Wow!! all the threads I was missing, lol
 
I could archive the year long Diary thread.

Don't forget many threads between 2003-05 have been bumped & re-bumped countless times.
 
And a lot of them were deleted last time.

Just deleted over nine thousand posts. It's a start. I'll go through the 0 reply ones now.
 
I've only lost about 300 posts so far. Just so I don't forget I'm putting my last post count here: 14,388 + 1

I really don't care if I lose a few posts, but not thousands cause I NEED my post count, lol.

I will change everyones post count back to normal after the deed is done. Just post what it was in here or pester me at some other time.
 
I take it posts that are archived aren't deducted from your count? Otherwise we'd all be losing a lot more!
