In an interview, casting director Jason La Padura said the part of Mohinder was originally conceived to be a much older character. However, because Sendhil has "this beautiful voice and he's beautiful to look at" and "he seems like he belongs on TV", the producers decided to change the concept of the character so they could cast Sendhil in the role.

GAGH'S POINT WAS THAT MOHINDER ISN'T PLAYING A MUSLIM SINCE THE CHARACTER IS INDIAN, A HINDU (MOSTLY) COUNTRY.

Although I just checked wikipedia and actually 13% of the country are muslim, so Mohinder could be one of those. WHO CARES, RELIGION IS A LOAD OF SHITE, MUCH LIKE HIS ACTING.
