TRENTON, N.J. - FBI agents arrested 11 public officials in towns across New Jersey Thursday on charges of taking bribes in exchange for influencing the awarding of public contracts, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.

All 11, plus a private individual, are accused of taking cash payments of $1,500 to $17,500 to influence who received public contracts, according to criminal complaints.

A federal complaint charges each of the 12 with accepting payments from companies that offered insurance and roofing services to cities and school districts, Drewniak said.

Democratic state Assemblymen Mims Hackett Jr. and Alfred E. Steele were arrested, as was Passaic Mayor Samuel Rivera. Also arrested were Keith Reid, the chief of staff to Newark's City Council president; Passaic councilmen Jonathan Soto and Marcellus Jackson; two current Pleasantville school board members, three former board members and a private citizen. One of the former school board members is now a Pleasantville city councilman.

More than 100 public officials in the state have been convicted on federal corruption charges in the last five years. Two other Democratic state senators, Wayne Bryant of Lawnside and Sharpe James of Newark, are among others facing pending corruption charges.

Interesting, interesting.

So, did you create that list yourself or was it fed to you by one of the libwanks' websites?

Interesting that bad behavior only ticks your ire when it isn't a Democrat that is the charged party.

On the contrary, as a rule of thumb, I hate all politicians in general. Both parties lost their direction decades ago. Government isn't about the people, for the people any more. It's about who can do the least work, amass the most amount of wealth, and change society to reflect their personal interests.

One other thing I really despise though is party loyalists that willfully ignore or justify the behavior and actions of their own party but scream foul over those same actions or behaviors when committed by the other party.

And let’s face it; the last eight years have seen corruption within the Republican party at historic levels and shown us what excellent hypocrites the Republicans are.

And where in there are you holding Democrats accountable for their actions?

Why would I cover a subject that you've been doing such a fine job of exclusive reporting on? :D

There you have it. Typical libwank. Claim to be unbiased but the facts don't support that claim.

FBI investigates Democratic fundraiser

By LARA JAKES JORDAN, Associated Press Writer
17 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - The FBI is investigating whether Democratic fundraiser Norman Hsu paid so-called straw donors to send campaign contributions to presidential hopeful Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and other candidates, a law enforcement official said Monday.
...

Since 2004, Hsu has donated $260,000 to Democratic Party groups and federal candidates, and raised hundreds of thousands of additional dollars. He was regarded as a top party fundraiser until recent reports surfaced that he was wanted on a warrant in California in connection with a 1991 grand theft charge.
...

A string of Democratic politicians have announced plans in recent weeks to return or donate to charity Hsu's election contributions. Clinton, D-N.Y., has said she plans to give to charity $23,000 in donations she received from Hsu for her presidential and senatorial campaigns and to her political action committee, HillPac. Additionally, Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell said Thursday he would donate nearly $40,000 in contributions, and Rep. Mark Udall, D-Colo., said Friday he donated a $1,000 contribution to a charity that helps soldiers.

Apparently, the words "all" and "both" escaped you.

But, in typical Republican fashion, you only hear, read, and believe whatever best fits with party doctrine.

Talk about a party liner. You are presented with a story about political corruption. Instead of weighing in on the actors involved in the crime, you point the finger elsewhere. And, why? Because the actors involved in the crime at hand are Democrats. You don't care about rooting out corruption and crime in our government, only in crucifying Republicans. Too bad that is indicative of libwanks.

LOL!

Reread everything you've written. All it is is an attack on Democrats while you continue to ignore transgressions by the Republicans.

I hold no party affiliation. But as things stand, the Democrats are the lesser of two evils right now. I'm sure given time and the next election that will change.

Of course, when it does, you hardliners will continue to justify or ignore the actions of the Republican Party while you condemn the same actions by the Democrats.

BS, darling. The story is 3 days old and not one of these criers for justice and rooting out of corruption picked up on it to discuss here because the actors are Democrats.

If that were true, then he would have addressed the original article about certain Democratic politicians being arrested for corruption. Instead, he pulled a list of Republican transgressions. He's got lots to say about an old man tapping his damned foot in a bathroom as long as the guy is a Republican, but when it comes to the shoe being on a Democratic foot, then it is a switch and bait - Oh Noes! Don't look at these Democrats, look at these Republicans!

That's because YOU constantly scream about the Democrats.

It's early and they haven't even been in office a full year yet. They've still got plenty of opportunity to do some decent damage to this country.

But you're crying foul for some of the same damn things that Republicans have been doing the last 8 years. Yet you've not said one word about them and their transgressions. In fact, you're attitude is "they're innocent" and as in the case of the moron at the airport, you're even questioning the job and or tactics of the authorities in the case. That's a problem and a prime example of a party hardliner.

I think Sarek wants to march ALL politicians to the gas chamber, not just republicans.

That is about as accurate as you can get.

My theory is, we wipe out DC while government is in session and then start all over with new elected officials ACTUALLY ELECTED by the people. Then we pay them about 50,000 a year to work for us. And if they fail to do their job, are convicted of committing a crime or some other transgression, we dock their pay and toss their asses out the door or lock them up.

I'm sick of Washington fatcats.

BS and BS.

I question the willingness of the citizens of this country to allow a person to be bullied into pleading guilty to a crime based on circumstantial evidence. That isn't being a hardliner for any party. The hardliners are the idiots that are willing to allow this to happen because it is a Republican.

And who are you to say whether he's innocent or guilty? It's his word against a cops. And I can guarantee you one thing, all the specifics of the case haven't been released to the public and won't be until it's settled.

The first words out of 99 percent of the people arrested are "I didn't do anything."

I am a person who is interested in not letting my country devolve into a society where every nuance of movement and speech is analyzed with the specific intent to proove criminal intent.

And while it may be Craig's word against a cops, it is also the cop's word against his. That is why a person is allowed to go to court to dispute the charges brought against them. A basic premise of our legal system is that a person can not be found guilty based on actions that are just as likely to be innocent as they are signs of criminal intent.

That cop specifically told Craig that he could plea guilty to a misdemeanor, pay the fine and be done with the whole situation or he could plead not guilty and go to court at which time the cop would swear Craig solicited sex from him. He did not say that he would give testimony that based on his experience the actions he witnessed Craig perform were indicative of intent to solicit sex.

Furthermore, declaring oneself innocent upon arrest is in no means evidence of guilt.

While you continue to deflect the topic onto Republicans, you have still failed to address the issue of the persons arrested for corruption as described in the original article posted.

I find it interesting that Hsu has donated $260,000 and raised an undisclosed amount of additional funds over the last 3 years but only $64,000 is accounted for. I think that what Rendall, Udall and Clinton did, giving the donated funds to charities, was the appropriate thing to do and think everyone else who received donations from Hsu or received money he raised should follow suit.
