I don't believe being obsessed and liking are the same thing. People can become obsessed with something they hate - say the person that murdered their loved one for example.
The second thing you mention is far more interesting to me because it's echoed some things I've been thinking lately. It is clear, from simply looking around at the people in the world, that their brains are not functioning the same as mine. They don't feel the constant anxiety or depression that I often feel. And I know that medication helps me feel better, but I have no idea what 'normal' is.
But, what interests me about this is that reality has not changed. I see the world and get filled with anxiety, most people see it and don't, and it's the same exact world. In computer programming terms we'd call that a different view into the same data. You can show the same data in a spread sheet or pie chart for example.
This gives me hope that I, through medication and therapy and hard work and perhaps a little luck, can someday figure out how to change my view into reality, to one that causes me less pain. It's not much hope, but it's better than feeling like there is no hope.
