Is being obsessed with something the same as liking something?

Yes, that sounds more like 'proper like', at least as I have experienced it.

As far as applying that thought process to everything, I too wish I could control my thought process a lot better, and haven't had a lot of luck. It's exceptionally hard when you are really dealing with what amounts to a brain injury - through genetics, trauma, or both. So we are trying to use a damaged organ to fix itself.

The physical damage we are only just starting to understand, and medications can help restore chemical imbalances and such, but by in large therapy is still the main line of defense. With all my heart I wish I had a better answer than that.

I have just finished reading (along with someone else) the brilliant book by Jon Ronson, The Psychopath Test. Psychopath's may be the focus but it really delves far more in to the human condition and how we define all mental illness. It's fascinating and well worth the read. It's breezy, I finished it in a day.

Whether you decide to read it or not (you should) check this out though:

(btw I very much doubt anyone who has posted in this thread is a psychopath)

An example of a clear obsession would be how I bump the "Bottom to return!" thread every day hoping that Menty will notice it. I certainly don't "like" doing that BUT I NEED HIM TO FUCKING SEE IT.

Is there a difference between obsession and OCD? That's what I want to know. Am I obsessed with something because I have OCD? Or have I actually let something take hold of me and now can't get enough of it.
