The loss of their "holy" lands entirely in less than an hour would so demoralize the Muslims and Jews alike that they'd shut up if not fold up for at least sixty years, enough time to toss their asses out of any positions of power in the civilized world and lock the doors.

I dunno. While the thought of turning all that sand into a nice, level, glow-in-the-dark lake bed of glass can be enticing, I'm pretty sure it'd backlash instantly into the Order 66 of Islam: You'd turn every single Muslim outside the region into a bomb-making, knife-wielding killbot with the toggle switch stuck in the 'on' position and the dial turned up to 11 (and IBT claims that they're all already like that, which, of course, is bullshit).

Similarly, if they ever manage to nuke one of our cities, you can bet our response would be --aside from the let's-replace-everything-between-Africa-and-India-with-a-big-empty-crater scenario, which I sometimes doubt any leader we have would have the sac to actually order-- a nationwide mass-lynching of anyone with too many a's and k's in their name or giant gay-porn black mustaches. End of the world how? We have oil from other sources and we're already transitioning away from it for most things, anyway. Other than that, what value at all does the region hold for the U.S. or anybody else? You know the reaction I'd expect the rest of the world to express on hearing that the region got glassed?
