Just watched the Space Station go overhead

Mines at about 9:10 or so.

I might be downtown at that time, and there's a lot less trees there, so I might get a glimpse :D

You have to have your timing perfect. There is only about a two minute window considering it's moving in excess of 18,000 mph

I just have to find the big dipper and I should be able to spot it.. unless I'm reading the damn star chart wrong :rwmad:

No luck in London. :( Poop.

Well it's going to be up there for a long time and it's orbit changes so maybe it will come into view past the 10 days thingy. I need to remember to look for it on the 9th cause it will be passing almost right over head. I'm still going to try to see it tonight though.

I don't have much luck with these things anyway. I live in a city and my house is surrounded by other houses and tall trees, so I get to see a really limited section of a very orange sky. :) But if the ISS really is that bright then hopefully I'll see it eventually.

Yeah, I missed it.

Damn thing's a quick little bugger!

I fell asleep so I missed it last night, but I probably wouldn't have been able to see it anyway. I think tomorrow night is the best chance I have of seeing it this week.

OK.. I couldn't see it, but I hope to see it when it passes again tonight. How far above the horizon is 10 degrees? I bet the trees will block my view :(
10° is pretty far down.

There are a few tricks to estimate angles:
if you keep the middle finger straight and move the forefinger as far away as you can (similar to the Vulkan Salute) it'll be about 30°.
The gap between ringfinger and middle finger in the Vulkan Salute is about 25°.
15° is the angle between your fingers when you play a C maj scale on the piano.
10° is approximately the angle between your fingers if you stretch them with the tips the width of 1 finger apart.

I haven't seen the ISS lately - we've had thunderstorms every night for a full week now *grumble*

I was explaining the whole Jesus-resurrection thing to a Jewish friend the other day:

RHJ (random hot jew): "So, like his body just flew up into the sky? Where did it go?"

SBV: "Space, I guess."

RHJ: "So it's up there like with the space station and the moon orbiting earth? How is that not creepy?"

SBV: "I told you you weren't going to believe me."

SBV withdrawals create overreaction in MFers, MORE NEWS AT 10!

sorry dude.

:D

When is Jesus next passing overhead?

lol.. Jesus lives on the moon!

In space station news, last night would have been the best night this week for me to see it, but it rained. I think there's another night this week and it'll be at about 62 degrees for a minute before going into shadow. SOME DAY I WILL SEE IT WITH MY OWN EYES.

I BELIEVE!
