Letter from the Graduation Office

Because where I live, specialists are thin on the ground and he's the only one who patronizes it IIRC.

You mean he's the only specialist within 200 miles?

Also it's the public health system making me wait for things like operations. I cannot afford private health care.

Please clarify; is it the doctor who is "not getting around to it" or the public health system "making you wait"?

He's based in Melbourne and while I'm sure there are other specialists of his ilk based there too, I don't know of any other surgeons or what to do the get other surgeon to to take a look and to be frank, I'm in pain every day and the time taken to round up other surgeon and go this the process all over again would be much longer than to wait until next month to see the one I know. No specialists are based where I live.

It's partly the specialist, partly the system that makes one wait for surgery or specialist consults. The specialist and the system has to deal with patients in order of severity, as is my understanding. I'm not in a life threatening situation nor in pain as would cause other health problems once I'm treated. It took roughly two years for my sinus operation to happen from initial GP consultation to specialist consult to operating table. I'm expecting this bent septum which was not properly done for whatever reason, to take a year or more to wait to be fixed unless if surgery is the only option to remedy it or if indeed I'm even correct that it's the problem.

However when my son had a burst appendix, treatment was rapid and efficient.

The sad truth is my condition can be lived with despite the pain it causes. And as I said before, the public health system has been so diluted that minor aliments such as mine are unimportant because it is stretched to cover the important ones. The system has been gutted somewhat.

All I can do really is wait, which pisses me off because I seriously have things to do, like defeat my anxiety and depression [which is worsened by the pain and sleeplessness], rehabilitate and train myself in a new area of work and launch a career to earn money to improve my family's lot. While we are subsisting on government monies [we are doing better than most on similar stipends and in some who are working families] doing so is rather frustrating as I would gladly be off them if I could simply get the medical help I required.

I blame the previous government for seeking align us with more of an American ideology and gutting most of our governmental infrastructure, put in place by the Labor party, back when they held socialist ideals dear. Telstra was once owned by the people only to be sold off. The Health Care system gutted. Many government departments dedicated to helping people like Veterans Affairs and the Social Security department squeezed under one roof to be staffed by less people, thus rendering those services frustrating and inefficient for those in need. And the upshot is someone like me seeking to be a wage earner and do the right thing only to be knocked back. It's pants. Oh look at me I'm ranting. Off for a nap then.
