Because Jack said only 8 survived the crash, and only 6 were rescued.
 
And as I said, they cant admit they know Desmond without adminting the island wasnt deserted.

They cant bring Desmond back because then people would be all "WTF, this guy wasnt even on teh plane"

Plus evil Alan Dale will probably still want Desmond dead, so easier for him to beleive he is, while he and Penny live it up on the island.

Maybe those two turn out to be Adam and Eve (the skeletons)
 
Have any of you watched the preview vid for next week (it's a Desmond episode, looks really good)?

did anyone surmise about the fact that Naomi had a pic of Desmond and Penny? Could she have been working for both the creepy black guy AND Penny's dad ?
i.e.- to assassinate Desmond, as well as the job she was supposed to do expediting the mission the helicopter gang was on?

They don't have to admit to anything for him to be dead.. I don't want him to be dead, I just don't think it looks good for him. They also don't have to admit anything for him to have been rescued. They have the kind of money and power they'd need to get him off the island in secret if they wanted to.
 
As far as I'm concerned, we know Sayid made it through whatever happened with the helicopter, so Desmond most likely does too. I reckon the helicopter did make it to the freighter, but Michael took over the boat since Sayid would have blown his cover anyway. That would explain why contact with the boat was a bit dodgy.

Who IS Desmond talking to in that trailer?
 
I hope he makes it, but Sayid making it doesn't mean Desmond will. They might have to fight on the boat or they could crash and only Sayid survives WHO KNOWS. Lost kills characters and they've said that someone is going to die.. I think I read somewhere maybe even two people die. I'M JUST PREPARING MYSELF FOR THE WORST, OK?
 
A good plot twist would be if we find out Desmond actually had a brother/brotha.
 
OR if we find out the Desmond loves me instead of Penny, and he's flying here RIGHT THIS MINUTE, to take me away to his secret island hideaway.

lol.. I JUST GOT THE QUOTE TOMTREK WAS REFERRING TO. I was too excited by the thought of Desmond showing up at my door and saying HEY THERE, that I forgot about Charlie's message. POOR CHARLIE!
 
when Charlie slapped Hugo to show he WAS both dead and he WAS there, I started wondering if there aren't DIFFERENT POSSIBLE futures....like how some flashbacks have Jack scruffy and drunk and others have him being all together and asked to be a character witness and stuff.

(grammatically wacked, but ya know what I mean?)
 
Or maybe Hugo brought Charlie into being, like Walt did with the bears and the bird.
 
WELL.. I think the explanation for Jack is: The clean and sober Jack testified at Kate's trial but sometime after that something happened and he started drinking and popping pills. For some reason he becomes obsessed with getting back to the island, maybe he's seeing things he shouldn't see too MAYBE CHARLIE KNOCKS ON HIS DOOR.
