Similiar thing happened when I saw an advanced screening of Dinner for Schmucks. Here's a movie you get to see for free and before anyone else so go ahead and laugh long and loud at the jokes so you miss half the dialogue.

It's a shame it was removed. Just a tiny short piece of film, and it adds quite a bit to the father / son / Jedi relationship between the two.

Hopefully, we'll see some of this on the BluRay release.

I like the hollering idiot who shouts "Yeeeeeeeeeaaaaahhh!" as Luke turns the tool in the Saber's controls. Whatever floats your boat, pal.

Of course if the film opened like this with Vader still doing the Luuuuuke thing, and empire ended the same way, it makes you wonder if he had being doing this for the entire three years in-between, or if he just waited for the most inopportune moments, like when Luke was on the crapper, or firing off a wank from his robot hand.

I imagine they left out it so that it's a surprise when R2 shoots Luke's new lightsabre out on the barge.
