I often leave my PC for hours and when I return I'm still logged in to Troll Korner. FACT

Wrong. It's all about session settings. You know nothing how software works. You're here all day waiting to see if jack posts and you're here right behind him with the same lame insults.

fucking morons. I don't know how it works for you but I leave the browser open and it stays logged in until I close the browser or log out. It doesn't 'time out' and log you out automatically like Vap claims. more gnomeshit

No when I'm logged in it's to post, otherwise I log out when I leave. Either way you can't ever tell.

Session settings are determined in the admin panel of the software. Administrators set it up to make you appear online when you are inactive for a certain amount of time. Default settings are usually 15 minutes. To YOU it appears you're still logged in because the software doesn't automatically log you out. You have to 'activate' the page to make the session begin again. This is all possible from the magical cookie that the software places on your browser for the site. Most sites use a 5 year cookie and if you never physically click that log out button, AND you never clear the cookies for a site, you will always be logged in.

Now, why does it do this? To conserve the load on the server and keep the forum from bogging down from falsely thinking there is activity when it's just users not logging out.
