Manual Transmission. Not "Manuel". He's from Fawlty Towers.

Why are people so retarded?

It's really not that hard to learn how to drive stick is it?

I've been trying to teach my friend how to drive stick shift and he seems incapable of getting the concept behind it. IS IT THAT HARD?

OK, so I'm teaching him in a BMW Z3 which is a little trickier for a learner driver, granted, but the concept is the same.

I guess it can be a bit difficult when you're first learning, but that usually takes about 5 minutes to get over. I can't stand driving automatics, personally.

I blame Detroit.

I'm currently driving a Ford Mustang in spite of a 1993 vow to never buy a Ford because they are the only company that makes an American coupe at a reasonable price and with the options I want*.

In 2003 I would've bought a Chevy Monte Carlo but they refused to make it with a manual transmission.

This year I would've considered paying the extra $1,000 for a Dodge Challenger if the base model could be had with a stick (MOPAR is using the Viper tranny as an option in the Challenger). Hell, I'd have considered paying the extra $10,000 and getting the midrange--except then you gotta take ABS and traction control. But there is no way in fuck I'm paying twice the price of the base model (and getting useless features like Artificial Intelligence mirrors and masturbating seat cushions) just so I can drive a fucking car without all kinds of machines controlling everything for me.

And since it looks like the Camaro is going to be the same deal, I went with the Mustang. Haven't regretted it for a second.

*Thankfully I have no friends. If I had more than one I'd have to hack their legs off below the knee for them to ride in the back.

I know how to drive a stick.
No really, I mean a manual transmission-for real!

My grandpa taught me to drive a stick when I was 12, lol..

I love manual. I love driving stick.

There's just no way I'm going to escape this thread without a gay sex pun, is there. Hmm.

I'm just getting the transmission on the new Mustang broken in. Even so, 1st is very steep. If you don't slip the Hell out of the clutch it will kill--or jerk and lurch on you. But it's a very sweet transmission when you're in the groove. I can't believe what a fun car it is for what it cost.

I think it took me 10/15 minutes on a back road to get the hang of a stick.

Now, it took a bit longer if I ever had to come to a full stop at this 3way half way up a steep hill on one of the ways to get home. There were a few times that summer where I died a couple times at that stop sign. But besides hill starts, it shouldn't take you that long to get the hang of a stick.

Manual is better in most instances, especially with a small, zippy car. Had one in my Integra back in the day, and it was ridiculously quicker off the line than the auto they gave me as a loaner one time.

That being said, I drive an SUV now, and wouldn't want a stick. Moreover, I commute through downtown LA and back every day, so there is NO WAY I'll ever get a stick shift again. I'm thinking of buyin a 2008 BMW sometime in Feb/March, and while a stick shift would be more fun on the weekends, it'd be a bitch to drive every day. My left leg would be worn out from sitting in the gridlock that is LA traffic.

I was teaching a friend to drive stick in this old Nissan I owned and he blew out the clutch. He really couldn't grasp the concept of clutch out gas in.

I can drive stick, but it's not a car.

You were always good with my stick, honey.

*honks horns*

(meaning my nipples OOMPH SEX REFERENCE AGAIN)

AAOOOOOOOOOOOOOGAAA!

BEWARE MY VEILED EUPHEMISMS

2004-2006 Pontiac GTO: came with a 6 speed (real one, clutch and everything) and a V8. That's why I bought it.

Of course, it's not really a Pontiac...it's really a Holden with an ugly Pontiac nose stuck on it. GM only get's partial credit for that one.

I have this whole coordination problem, which is why it was hard for me to learn a stick. I can if I have no other choice, but you wouldn't want to be near me when I did.

^ This is why I would have you tied down, that way you only have to concentrate on one thing at a time...

I miss standards when I'm stuck on icy hills going backwards in a bloody automatic;
....other than that, I'm a lazy North American lass and would just as soon let the men do the driving.
ZOMG THAT WAS AN INNOCENT REMARK, OK?!
