Jackson Scouts Maryland Vacation Homeshttp://www.forbes.com/feeds/ap/2007/07/04/ap3884279.html
Associated Press 07.04.07, 12:55 PM ET

Michael Jackson has been hunting for real estate on Maryland's Eastern Shore as he searches for a vacation home, a publicist for the pop star said.

The self-proclaimed King of Pop visited the rural peninsula last week "for about 24 hours," but has not made a purchase, Raymone Bain told The Washington Post (nyse: WPO - news - people ).

Jackson, 48, is not limiting his search to the Chesapeake region. He has since "gone up the coast" to look elsewhere for a vacation place, Bain said.

"He's always admired the properties on the East Coast because they have a lot of land," Bain said in the story published Wednesday. "Neverland has 3,000 acres - he likes privacy. You can't find as many properties like that on the West Coast."

Jackson came east with his children about 10 days ago for meetings because "the majority of his advisers and attorneys are on the East Coast," Bain said.

She would not elaborate on the purpose of the meetings, but said that Jackson was dealing with "a laundry list" of issues. "He's head of a vast corporation," Bain said.
Umm...you can't find 3000 acres on the West Coast? There are about 12 square states where you can pick up 10000 acres for a song. Harrison Ford owns a third of Montana...they're still fighting the Indians out there...yet he's going to find 3000 acres in one of the smallest states on the East Coast, mostly inhabited by commuting politicians?...hello!?

He's meant to be making a comeback soon with lots of duets and Menty as a backing dancer.

The self-proclaimed King of Pop

How has he self proclaimed himself as anything? He has never once in his entire life claimed to be the "King of Pop."

Also I would like to take a moment after the thousands of reports of MJ being stoney broke (and all the times I flat out denied it) to give a smirk of contempt in their direction. Seeing as he has just bought up a list of Eminem's catalogue and has massivley increased the clout of the Sony/ATV. LOL HE'S SO POOR LOL.

ARTICLE: Sony BMG seeks Michael Jackson's backing for move to sign songwriters

Recording giant Sony BMG is trying to renegotiate a contract with Michael Jackson to allow the company to get into the publishing side of the music industry. Times of London's Dan Sabbagh says it all depends how big a check they're ready to write

Doug Krizner: The music business is usually split into two halves. One finds, develops and promotes artists. The other focuses on songwriters and publishing. Sony BMG is the world's second largest record label, but it's not been in the publishing biz. That's because of an agreement Sony has with Michael Jackson, but things could change. Sony and Jackson are renegotiating their deal and Sony BMG could begin signing songwriters for the first time. Dan Sabbagh is media editor for the Times of London. Dan what's this deal about?

Dan Sabbagh: Well the key here is that there's a separate company called Sony ATV. That's a joint venture between Sony and Michael Jackson. It owns a huge catalogue of songs including all 251 Beatles songs. Now the issue here is that when that venture was set up, Sony agreed that it would not back a competing publishing business, a competing catalogue of songwriters. Now they've created Sony BMG since then. Sony BMG's very keen to get into publishing.

Krizner: How critical is the publishing aspect of the business to the survival of Sony BMG do you think?

Sabbagh: Well, look, Sony BMG's the No. 2 recording music company. It will survive but it will fare a lot worse if it doesn't have access to a publishing business, it'll fare a lot worse commercially. Music publishing generates revenues from radio airplay, from advertising, as well as indirectly from sales. Plus sometimes you have a new, you know, you have a very talented singer who comes along, a new singer, you also want to look after them as a songwriter and you want to have both parts of their business if you like.

Krizner: What do you think Jackson's trying to get out of these negotiations?

Sabbagh: Well it's not clear. One obvious answer is money. What isn't clear is how far Jackson is willing to allow Sony BMG to complete and I think that will be offset by Sony's willingness to write a check.
Krizner: Dan Sabbagh is media editor with the Times of London, thanks very much for joining us.

Sabbagh: Thank you very much.

He's on the ropes!

As for him singing again...

Of course he is. His new album should be well over half done and is going to be released during the November/December period.

I would be surprised if he toured again since he was fed up with the process back in '89 and intended the Bad tour to be his last despite giving us Dangerous and HIStory regardless. But there is always the possibility and what is more likley is a mini-tour and a number of one-night-only events as well as award shows ect. There is also the continued rumors of a Vegas show but time will tell.

Yes, he is asset-rich, but with his lifestyle and legal troubles it was always entirely believable that he experienced cash-poor cycles. The article doesn't address that aspect at all. I'm just sayin'.

People/corps in these situations buy/acquire things through financing. They don't necessarily need cash up front.

Despite his debts and expenses from 2003 his actual monetary stability was never threatened. The media went on a frenzy with all this "bankruptcy imminent!" and even had a week countdown until he would have to file. Completley ridiculous because of course nothing like that ever happened.

You just get used to the total flat-out lies that they publish after a while. Someone sees a rumor or assumes that something is so and they construct a story around it without any real information. It's about 10,000 times more unreliable than Wikipedia.

And considering he was meant to have NO CHOICE but to sell the catalog less than a year ago it's funny that he has bidded and won for a large section of the Eminem catalog (kinda hard if you have no money!) and is now expanding MiJac Publishing and still in heavy business with Sony.

That catalog makes him something like 100 million a year. Even given his sometimes excessive lifestyle he has way too much money pouring in on a regular basis to ever start worrying about being in cash troubles. He is still one of the richest entertainers in the world.

Ultimatley his clout as a performer and the hype he can generate is unsurpassed. Even still after all the bullshit that has been thrown at him he is far from down for the count.

I expect that his new album will generate decent sales (although never again will he sell like he used to but then again nobody does anyway) and I expect it to be musically diverse and new since nothing he has done is ever a rehash of earlier material.

My patience knows no bounds at this point. Looking forward to the album and even more so to potential live performances but I can wait. For a while.

I hope his new stuff is great, and that he still has a voice left beyond James Brownian croaks and grunts. It might shake up the business a little and distract the labels from their illegal shakedowns of downloaders if it's a blockbuster...

The man is friends with Saudi princes. He'll never starve, no matter what happens to his holdings. But like with the Bushes, it may mean making deals with the devil to stay on top of things.

An alliance with the borg?

I thought I read something in the paper the other day about him singing in a small club for some fans... I tried to find the article online but I can't at the moment.

i want to see a new album as well. Blood On The Dance Floor was the last really good MJ album, never liked Invincible all that well (just an ok effort).

!!!!!1

Invincible grew on me a lot but only years after release. Heaven Can Wait and Break of Dawn are two of my favourite MJ songs. It really shows his entire range as the phenomenal vocalist he is.

I also like Invincible, Rock My World, 2000 Watts, and Butterflies.

It's definitely an album that grows on the listener after a while.

Each to their own though. Invincible was a very different type of Album and it's already being emulated in sound and production. I expect something completley different once again from 7even.
