To my great surprise, I actually laughed at the farting. Quite a lot. :phpeek:

Anyway, good to have a Gaius episode. Richard Wilson was really good all the way through, and I imagine he was relishing having something to say other than "the only explanation, sire, is SORCERY!". I was glad he got possessed pretty early on so we didn't have to see too much of that rubbish goblin, though I suppose Davina hasn't had too much experience of acting, so we shouldn't be overly harsh.

There was a bit of continuity from earlier on in the show. Probably in season 1 Gaius needed the bestiary to identify a monster and that bald guy was in the library then as well iirc. Then in this ep he said the book hadn't been used for years, which adds up.

Yet another shirtless Arthur scene. It's getting a bit much now. Every episode?

Gwen's bra wins the BAFTA for best supporting role. If I actually found her attractive, I probably would've really enjoyed all those shots of her scrabbling around on the floor!

Best scene was the Goblin telling Morgana she's evil. I wonder if she still thought she was good?

Yeah that wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

Richard Wilson was good, Anthony Head looked cool bald, Gwen was as useless as ever, Morgana is lovely BUT DIDN'T DO A SINGLE EVIL SMILE.

Hrum.

Morgana did give Merlin a bit of an evil look when Goblin Gaius had framed him. Gwen sure did thrust those things into the camera a lot. Shame she's not hot!

Yes, for the comedy episode it was pretty good. Richard Wilson was funny, the reveal of Uther with no hair was genuinely amusing (and the reveal of him wearing the comedy hat to cover his baldness) and the farting wasn't too bad even. Only bad bit, LIKE FUDDLEMIFF SAID, was the goblin voice actor making stupid noises.

There was a bit where the Goblin used the F-word while diving into some sandbags or pots or something.

Next week's looks like an episode we've already seen at least twice, but at least it shouldn't be too dumb.

And it'll have Lancelot and Aruther talking about how beautiful Gwen is...

3X04 WHATEVER THIS WEEK'S WAS CALLED (Okay, so it was imaginatively titled "Gwaine".)

The knights' challenge thingy where Arthur's life is threatened and Merlin has to use magic to save him without anyone noticing is exactly the same as at least one previous episode. And I'm getting really sick of Merlin only using his magic to make things unexpectedly snap or fall on someone.

No shirtless Arthur scene this week. I think that's the first time this season. Fangirls will be sad. Sadder.

Arthur throwing a piece of armour at Merlin's head was taking the "comedy" physical abuse a little far. Poor Merlin could've got concussion.

One lineless Morgana scene? Fuh? There wasn't even an evil smirk. :phpeh:

Only thing I really liked about the episode was Gwaine, even after I realised he was The Outrageous Okona.

I thought it was pretty good. SURE, it was formula Merlin, but we've all grown to know and love the formulate now, right? I was expecting Gwaine to say "we're all clear, kid, now let's blow this thing and go home!" when he saved Arthur. Except that would have made no sense. I wish they'd stop having hot guys flirting with Gwen. It's just not believable and Morgana is RIGHT THERE (not doing anything.)

Arthur probably should have just executed that thug in the first place and avoided the whole episode.

Next week's looks good (Morgana's in it.)

And the fortress of solitude/Smallville caves thing. Remember how they take inspiration from Smallvile? Hmmm.

Was that Derek Jacobi playing the old man in the preview or just someone who looked a bit like him? Probably wasn't Derek Jacobi.

And dragon.

So this week's was pretty good, I thought. I was actually expecting them to go all the way and have Uther announce that he's adopting Morgana and she's a princess now at the end (since Merlin had a vision of her wearing a crown) but I guess that's coming later. Morgana has nice breasts.

Next week's is LITERALLY just the episode from season one where Arthur falls for a girl who's really a fairy and the episode from season two where he has to marry the uncouth Georgia Moffet pasted together. LITERALLY.

GOOD EPISODE THINGS HAPPENED PALE MORGANA LOVELY STUFF DRAGON.

They showed Merlin old and grey with a beard, didn't they? I have to watch it again properly.

Next weeks looks like a car crash. You'd think the actors would point out that they'd already done that episode!

Twice!

Yeah I guess Morgana will put a spell on Merlin to turn him old at some point but the dragon will reverse it by pissing on him or something.

I hope it's not that straightforward, but it probably will be. I'd rather that they just showed a few things that we'll never see, to leave a bit of mystery.

Meanwhile, the old sorcerer at the begin = real old Merlin? "He'll recover quickly... if memory serves me well", he said about Arthur. And he looks as if he was chosen for his resemblance to Colin Morgan. Gaius says he was an old seer, who'd died long ago, but could be Merlin sent back in time... would explain easily how he was able to see the future. Or maybe I'm putting too much faith in the writers? :)

The crystal cave was too similar to the Fortress of Solitude, especially since the stones can be removed and used for other purposes, but it's only one of many Smallville comparisons in the show. One more can't hurt.

Morgause has really neat mirror writing.

Everything Merlin saw in the crystals happened.

HOW DARE YOU TREAT ME SUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????????

Anyway, overall a really good episode, with a dreamy, melancholy feel in some places. Morgana being Arthur's half sister seems a bit odd considering Uther was trying to get them to marry, iirc, but then they did use to do that sort of thing. The way Uther kept trying to tell Gaius to use magic and how he thanked him at the end were really good. And it makes Uther even more evil. Merlin nearly killing Morgana was kind of hardcore, though I'm not really sure why he's so determined to save Uther.

Maybe next week's is just a repeat. I'm sure I've heard "I will watch you grow into the King Camelot deserves" before.

I thought the sorcerer knew about the future (arthur recovering) because he had seen it in his crystals. BUT YOU'RE RIGHT, Gaius did say that thing about him being dead for years. HMM. Maybe it's like the last series of Doctor Who where later this series we'll see aged Merlin go back to that cave and replay that scene like the Doctor talking to Amy in the forest. Except this is Merlin so...

What was with the old guy saying that "all magic" begun in that cave? That seems like a pretty big deal and a pretty big coincidence that the cave where "all magic" begun is just a few miles away from Camelot.

I liked the bit where arthur and merlin were deciding who is the taker and who is the giver.

"I give the orders around here"

"come on then, TAKE ME NOW BIG BOY"

IT'S ALL INNOCENT FUN.
