Report: Frail Michael Jackson suffering from rare lung condition

By KORIN MILLER
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER

Michael Jackson is suffering from a rare lung condition and needs to undergo an emergency transplant operation, according to a report that continues to gain steam.

And his normally outspoken publicist hasn't denied the allegations.

The King of Pop may even be fighting for his life, New York Times bestselling biographer Ian Halperin tells In Touch magazine and Britain's Sunday Express newspaper.

Halperin, author of such tomes as "Love & Death: The Murder of Kurt Cobain" and "Stalking Britney: Under Siege With Britney Spears," says Jackson has been diagnosed with Alpha 1-antitrypsin deficiency, an occasionally fatal genetic condition.

"He's had it for years but it's gotten worse," Halperin told In Touch. "He needs a lung transplant but may be too weak to go through with it.

He also has emphysema and chronic gastrointestinal bleeding, which his doctors have had a lot of trouble stopping. It's the bleeding that is the most problematic part. It could kill him."

According to Halperin, Jackson "can barely speak" and is having trouble seeing: "The vision in his left eye is 95 percent gone."

Jackson, who has lived largely out the public eye in recent years, shocked fans in July when he was photographed in wheelchair.

The 50-year-old also received help walking when stepped out in Los Angeles earlier this month wearing a Zorro-style face mask.

Jackson's rep was unavailable for comment Sunday, but the singer's brother Jermaine didn't deny the reports, telling Fox News, "He's not doing so well right now. This isn't a good time."

I'd like to say this is more unsubstantiated media bullshit but it's definitely gaining steam.

I don't give a shit if he doesn't perform again as long as his life isn't at risk. I would take this story with a massive grain of salt regardless though.

I'd be disappointed if he was too unwell to ever make his long awaited comeback. Not for me or the fans, but just because I think he deserves to be remembered for his music and right now there's still a big raincloud hanging over him and his reputation.

Yes, if he died now he'd be remembered and celebrated for his music, but all the trials and payoffs would probably be the first thing to come to people's minds when thinking of him.

He's faking it to get put in to hospital where he'll request to be on the "kiddie ward" to get better quicker...

JUST JOKING DON'T SHOOT ME.

Has some generic poster from TMZ hijacked Wacky's account?!

ANYWAY..

This guy is so far the sole source of these rumors and he's trying to sell a book about him.

I'm far from convinced yet.

MJ does have medical issues like Vitiligo (OMG CONTROVERSIAL) and he also has discoid lupus which is less widely known but as for being at deaths door with all these new medical conditions?

We will have to wait and see. He should release a statement confirming or denying these reports but I doubt he will unless the speculation builds to front page news sufficiently enough outside the tabloids or if there is some unfortunate truth to it.

I think it's all a hoax, and MJ will be trialing as a Quarterback for the Chicago Bears next season.

A brief article was in my local paper today. I hope he's not terribly sick.

IT'S GOING ROUND ASDA, IT'S GOTTA BE TRUE!

Michael Jackson Prepping for World Tour, Not Lung Transplant

Michael Jackson is not only not suffering from a life-threatening lung ailment, he's so healthy he's planning a world tour!

In response to recent comments made by celebrity conspiracy-theorist Ian Halperin, the pop icon's rep issued a statement Monday saying that "wild allegations concerning Mr. Jackson’s health are a total fabrication."

"Concerning this author's allegations, we would hope in the future that legitimate media will not continue to be exploited by such an obvious attempt to promote this unauthorized ‘biography,' " Jackson spokesman Dr. Tohme Tohme said of Halperin's in-the-works bio, which claims that the Thriller artist is suffering from a genetic condition called alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency that could require a lung transplant to save him.

"Mr. Jackson is in fine health, and finalizing negotiations with a major entertainment company and television network for both a world tour and a series of specials and appearances," Tohme continued.

"I am now in the studio developing new and exciting projects that I look forward to sharing with my fans in concert soon," Jacko said at the time.

Typical unsubstantiated media bullshit. One stupid idiot releases some ridiculous and downright awful claims and all the major news outlets run with it because they don't know jack diddly squat about Michael and what he is doing and they never have.

End of!

If that's true I'm very happy for him, but it doesn't quite address those two bizarre public appearances this year where he could barely walk and had his whole head covered...

well, he's got that not wanting to be photographed thing and it's hard to walk quickly when you cant see where yer going with your whole head covered.
maybe?

It could have been something as innocuous as a hurt ankle in training. Even Michael would probably forgo the toy shopping in a Zorro mask adventures is he was dying.

I don't know. I'm a much less flamboyant person than MJ but there are some things I've promised myself I will do should I ever learn I have a short period of time to live. Wearing a Zorro Mask in public while shopping for toys is one of them.

And being wheeled around instead of all that labourious walking sounds fantastic.
