My car was destroyed yesterday while I was in it

I'll be OK eventually. His insurance finally accepted responsibility. I've got a rental car, the hospital is billing his insurance, and an old friend of mine who is now a plaintiff's lawyer is interested in taking my case. I'm blessed with insurance of my own, friends, and family.
 
It's crazy how a violent, brass knuckle wielding 'kid' who's been arrested some twenty times since '14 somehow managed to muster enough social responsibility to carry auto insurance.

That's terrific. Cars can be replaced, people not so much. I'm glad you're ok.
 
Texas is also a "fault" state and requires all drivers to have insurance, so it's not a matter of "social responsibility" (whatever the fuck that means)...it's the only way you can legally drive.
 
So let me see if I have this straight - State Farm agreed to pay out on a claim where the 'covered' vehicle was being driven by a wanted felon attempting to evade arrest, who had an open container in the cab at the time of the accident and wasn't listed as a driver on the policy held by the non-English speaking owner who may or may not have given the driver permission to use the vehicle?

And all in less than a week?

What planet did this crash happen on again?
 
Charged, not convicted.

Guy who hit me lives with his parents. Although he wasn't specifically included, he wasn't excluded. In this state, not excluding a family member living with you is the same as including.

Kid has problems. Violence. Alcoholism. If you were his dad, would you want to add grand theft auto to that? Plus, that puts it into a loop on who will pay to repair/replace dad's 2014 GMC Sierra. Dad's insurance pays, State Farm sues the son. Son is in prison for grand theft auto.

It gets messier all the time.

I feel for his family. I hope kid sees this as wake up call.

Considering kid knew cops were after him already, he was drinking while driving, he hit a house, he creamed me and last he saw me I wasn't doing so well, he is the one called police to the scene. Hope he sees this event as his bottom and starts digging his way out.
 
That is probably one of those things you think you know what you would do if it were you until it is you.
 
Did your son get himself in a similar mess?

It could be the insurance mess or it could be a cultural thing too. Could be his parents are in denial about the gravity of their kid's problems.
 
This coming week will be pivotal. In addition to settling on making me whole on a the car, taking care of the medical, reimbursing me for some associated expenses, there is the pain and suffering issue.

This craziness continues.

Although I'm much improved in the injury department, a few places don't seem to be improving as well. Felt like my chest was bruised down to my lungs. Just saw doctor. I'm just bruised down to my chest wall. My lungs are clear.

He had my xrays and ct scans from the ER. Appears I'm in really good shape for an old gal with arthritis that had just been smacked to hell and back.

Going to air up the tires on my bike and go for a ride tomorrow. Thinking I might have to reschedule the mammogram next week for sometime in September. Might want to do that before the jailbreak obstacle race though. Considering the hunky guys from the fire department come out to lift out the people who fall into the pits on the course, I have a feeling I'll fall into a couple. :)
 
More than a month later and this thing is still going on. Got a new car today - a used 2014 Ford Focus. I must have been insane when I bought it. It has a million gadgets on it and a 491 page instruction book written by a sadist. I am afraid I am going to accidentally program the car to lock me out digitally and my standard keys will not let me in or start the ignition. However, if I do this right, my car will start itself and have coffee and biscuits ready for me when I get into it in the morning and greet me with fresh baked cookies in the evening when I get off work. It will call me if suspicious looking characters appear and it will parallel park itself. Perhaps I can train it to get a job and support me so I can retire.
