My wife was in labor for three fucking days with our middle daughter, so I'm familiar with what Laura is talking about.
Braxton-Hicks indeed. We were standing in line at some department store buying stuff for the birth when a rush came on, so she just stood there and was breathing gently. The gentleman behind us grew impatient as the line in front progressed a couple people without us moving and he finally made a comment, to which I gently explained to him what was happening. Hilarity ensues in his over reaction. I was walking her around alot because it seemed to keep things moving. This ended up being a close to 72 hour labor.
Do not allow them to threaten you with cesarian (I'm sure you more than know this) because with VERY rare exceptions, each gestation is unique and normal for itself.
Ad I learned very clearly when my middle daughter finally arrived.
