Thai prison authorities Tuesday banned personal gifts for inmates in a bid to eradicate increasingly bizarre forms of drug smuggling, including stuffed toads, curry and clams.
Amphetamine pills have been found in straws, stuffed into hollow stems of morning glory plants and hidden in red curry, while clams have had their meat removed and replaced with drugs wrapped in plastic.
Drugs used to be hidden in personal belongings such as soap, baby powder, toothpaste or milk, but strict checks by prison authorities have led visitors to changes their methods.
