NBA All-Star draft: Team LeBron takes AD first overall; Giannis selects Joel Embiid at No. 2

Giannis Antetokounmpo and Lebron James divvied up the remaining 22 All-Stars taking part in next weekend's NBA All-Star Game on Thursday night. The two leading vote-getters from the Eastern and Western Conferences went back and forth in selecting which players would be on their respective teams. James, who was wearing a black sweatshirt with two hearts on it, a yellow one with Kobe Bryant's numbers, 8 and 24, written in purple inside it, and a white one with Kobe's daughter Gianna's No. 2 written in black went first, and took Los Angeles Lakers teammate Anthony Davis for the second consecutive year. The NBA also announced major changes to this year's All-Star format, turning every quarter into a mini-game for charity before an untimed final quarter with a target score that will decide which team wins. Scores will be reset -- back to 0-0 -- at the start of the second and third quarters, then restored to begin the fourth quarter.

NBA All-Star Game MVP award named in honor of Kobe Bryant
"We were thinking about what the best way is, one of the ways to honor Kobe," Silver said at the United Center before the league's Saturday night festivities got underway. "It happened to be that his loss came shortly before we were moving into All-Star festivities. I think one of the things that stands out with Kobe, of course in addition to his five championships, is that he has [made 18 All-Star teams] and tied for the record of four MVPs.

All-Star Game remembers Kobe Bryant with tributes from Magic, Jennifer Hudson, Common

The tributes to the late Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna began well before Sunday night's All-Star Game at the United Center. Before the players were announced and the game tipped off, the lights went down, and Hall of Famer Magic Johnson took center stage to make a speech honoring the Lakers legend. "We'll never see another basketball player quite like Kobe," said Johnson, who also paid tribute to David Stern, the late NBA commissioner emeritus. "Scoring 81 points in one game. Scoring 60 points in his last game. And then winning five NBA championships. Johnson led the crowd -- which chanted "Kobe! Kobe!'' -- in an eight-second moment of silence in a nod to the number Bryant wore the first half of his career. Chicagoan Jennifer Hudson, wearing a dress in the Lakers' deep purple team color, performed "For All We Know (We May Never Meet Again)" as images of Bryant flashed on a screen behind the stage.
