Andre Drummond plans to sign with Los Angeles Lakers, agent says

Andre Drummond intends to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers once he clears waivers at 5 p.m. ET on Sunday, agent Jeff Schwartz of Excel Sports Management told ESPN. The Lakers' star players and front office have been recruiting the center hard, selling him on the opportunity to step into the defending champions' starting lineup, sources said. The Lakers have had inconsistent center play with Marc Gasol and Montrezl Harrell this season, and Drummond's ability to protect the paint and rebound would allow for him to have a significant impact. Drummond, 27, averaged 17.5 points and 13.5 rebounds in 25 starts this season with Cleveland but hasn't played a game since Feb. 12, after the Cavaliers traded for a younger center, Jarrett Allen. Drummond's role was diminished and the sides agreed that he would leave the active roster until a trade or buyout allowed him to move on.

Dapper Labs, creator of NBA Top Shot, gets $305 million in funding

Canadian blockchain technology company Dapper Labs has secured $305 million in private funding -- some of it from current and former NBA players, including Michael Jordan -- to scale up its virtual NBA trading card site, the company said Tuesday. Vancouver, British Columbia-based Dapper says NBA Top Shot has rung up $500 million in sales and registered more than 800,000 accounts since its public beta testing phase began in October. The virtual cards come in the form of a floating digital cube that includes a video highlight of an NBA player and come with a nonfungible token (NFT), backed by blockchain technology, certifying its authenticity and scarcity. A LeBron James dunk highlight sold for $210,000 recently, but more common cards can often be had for less than $10. The most recent round of funding was led by New York-based private equity firm Coatue Management and brings Dapper's total capital raised to $357 million.
