Recently I was trolling the 1up boards and finally got permabanned.

Since this was my first real permaban, I am beginning to think that my style might be a little too forward. It usually involves straight up flamebaiting and efforts to put the forum goers into a state of intellectual checkmate. Most of the time it seems to be successful and I get the maximum LPM possible. The permaban is making me rethink my strategy.

Essentially, I want to avoid the banhammer while keeping my trolls efficient. Suggestions?

If you are flamebaiting, you're probably making it too obvious. You must always strive to appear the innocent and abused one while secretly reveling in your ability to rile your opponents into a frothy mouthed frenzy. OR SO I'VE HEARD.

lol.. sometimes it comes NATURALLY. Maybe it's an evil female thing? Right now on a board, which I have no intention of trolling or anything, there's a guy who hates me and attacks me at every opportunity.. I enjoy finding out just how little I need to say to get several sputtering ranting posts out of him.
 
Cassie is right. You just need to find the right buttons to press. Find touchy topics and then come up with a ludicrous position that will infuriate people. Intellectual checkmates are always rewarding but sometimes it's fun to take on a position that is preposterous and then let others try and shoot you down with their perceived intellectual abilities. Then you can just wind them up because the more they try and logically defeat you the more you completely ignore all their points and keep pressing them with more-and-more ludicrous shit all under the guise of nothing more than your opinion. Mis-quoting people is always funny as well. Respond to the replies but "miss the point" and use it to support your ever evolving argument. This really fucks people off.

You don't need to flame to start the ball rolling in this way. And you still have the power to create the playing field beforehand. Plus it can be hilarious.


Oh, and if people start to flame you hard don't rise to it at all. A few sniping comments are OK but let THEM get angry and confrontational.

I like creating ludicrous but plausible characters and delivering details of their life in a completely deadpan manner.

Thanks for the advice.

I am thinking of adopting a more subtle strategy. I will try out your suggestions on the next board I "visit".

As a matter of fact, I'm in the market for a new forum right now. I just received my third permaban(LOL) from 1up's NG boards and I'm ready for a change.

The Flat Earth Society is a good forum to have some fun at. They are very tolerant of trolls, but not the over the top kind. You can take the flat earth side or the round earth side.. or you can avoid those debates and troll the religion forum as an evangelical or something. Most of the members are atheist so taking that side is pointless.
 
TrekBBS is always fun.
