New Doctor Who.

I'm liking this. Haven't seen an episode of Doctor Who since I was a kid.

I take objection to BDM's critique of the always brilliant Simon Callow.

Now I want to watch them from the start, but there's a very, very long wait on the first disc at Netflix.

Time to buy a few more copies, maybe?

I would never do that, nor would I ever use my new DVD player that plays all codecs to watch them on the big screen.

Still, I'm tempted to buy the region 2 release of the first series of the new shows. Comes boxed in a Tardis.

Region 2 gets all the cool box sets.

Aha. The reason for the long delay is that the Hartnell Whos just came out on DVD yesterday, the same day I put them in my Netflix cart.

Eh, I just thought he chewed the scenery a bit much. It stood out in contrast to Eccleston's somewhat understated performance in this episode.

But I don't know that much about Dickens, for all I know he could have been like that IRL!

Might have something to do with the fact that Simon Callow is gay.

Callow does a one-man show based on Dickens. He studied the guy pretty intensely, from what I've heard.

Here's a wiki on him (yes, this link is perfectly safe!): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simon_Callow

I like the new Dr who. My hubby and I have been watching them.

I like this new Dr who as much as I like Tom Baker. Sadly though, he is only doing one season..

I wonder if the other Dr is going to be as good..

30 years of being a Dr who fan!

Christopher Eccleston is a great actor. I liked him in the first couple of series of Cracker, and he was great in Shallow Grave.

A shame he didn't decide to do more than one series.

gotta say I love the series...and the music, oh the music takes me straight back to sitting in front of the tv as a child watching it in black and white. Thank heavens they didn't change it.

For those who haven't seen it, you're in for a treat or two with the Empty Child (Spooky!). I personally was not too fond of World War 3 or Aliens of london..sorry, toilet humour is not that funny in my book. But The doctor Dances was cool (and Jack is hot!) and the parting of ways..oh my gods, I can't believe that episode!

Just saw part one of the Aliens in London arc...and wasn't impressed at all. I mean, the part where The Doctor screws up as per usual and takes Rose back a year after she left is PRICELESS. But everything else was pretty bad. I mean, we have to watch the characters watching television?? WTF is up with that??

If I wanted to watch a show about "real life" I'd watch one of the several thousand festering, pox-ridden "reality shows" currently clogging up the U.S. Airwaves.

When I'm watching a scripted show, especially a sci-fi show, I damn well expect the charaters to be doing something more dramatic than watch television. It seems to me like they really blew all their cash on the aliens' transformation scenes, so they had to resort to sitting around watching tv.

Sorry if that comes off as "harsh", whisky, just think of my tone as "smart-ass sarcastic"! :)
