New Doctor Who

So is The Sarah Jane Adventures any good? It's going to start on the Sci Fi channel next Friday.

It's a kid's show. It's better than Torchwood, from what I've seen, but I don't watch it regularly.

I saw the first episode and thought it was pretty good. It seemed similar in quality to some of the great science fictiony childrens drama that was on when I was a child (such as Aquila and The Demon Headmaster), which really encouraging. Most kids tv now is shit and ITV don't even bother showing it on their main channel anymore.

There needs to be more coke & hookers in it though.

And a multitude of alien paedos who are all played by Matthew Kelly.

Because I'm a giantic dork I watch and/or downloaded every episode - and they're actually really good.

A lot of the stupid stuff is a lot easier to take because it's meant to be like that, and since only one episode (the first) is written by ol' Russel T. the rest are pretty good, and penultimate episode actually has a pretty good cliffhanger if you've watched the rest of the episodes.

Plus it's makes references to classsic Doctor Who that only people who are nerdy enough to have a favourite Romana (mine's II) would notice.

Oh cool.. I'll give it a try then. Always nice to have something decent to watch while I'm waiting for BSG to come on.

You do watch Doctor Who though, right?

I haven't seen any of the episodes with the newest Dr. I'll get caught up one of these days.

tHAT'S QUITE IMPORTANT TOO. woops. Sarah Jane meets the current Doc which is what instigates her whole tv series. dunno how much it's referenced tho.

I'd definitely watch Doctor Who over Sarah Jane if they're both on anyway. Or watch both.

There's things like she has a sonic lipstick and they talk about Sontarans in one episode, and K9 is around very very briefly which are direct references.

There's other stuff too like mentions of UNIT and pictures of The Brigadier and Harry Sullivan in her loft.

I noticed she also has a map of the galaxy from TNG's episode Conspiracy.

Yes she's also Captain Picard but they cut the scenes establishing that.

You've got to draw the line somewhere.

ANOTHER THING about this episode I just remembered, when the Doctor locks the door with the sonic screwdriver (which of course can do anything the plot requires) the goons struggle to open it for a while then eventually resort to shooting it down. But in the next scene we find out the Super Nanny woman has her own sonic pen thing. So why didn't she just use it to immediately open the door? LOL NIT-PICKING IS FUN, BY GARR.

I dont think he just locked the door, I think he welded the lock, her pen might not have had a setting for unwelding locks.

The bigger question would be, if it were just the lock causing the problem, why should the rest of the door full of holes, why not just shoot the lock?

That'd be a great joke in future. "Sorry, my sonic screwdriver doesn't have that setting." Pfft, as if! Those things seem to do anything the plot requires!

They could use the Sarah Jane Chronicles to plug the teen gap that Grange Hill will leave, so the girls can have sonic periods, or something, then they sit in a room talking about problems growing up, but thrashing a disabled Sontaran in the head with a stick to keep it on-topic, or something.

One of the boys tries an EXTERMINATE pill (known on "the street" simply as an "e") for the first time and winds up in hospital somehow. Meanwhile, in a touching story, Sarah Jayne has to come to terms with the fact that K-9 needs to be put down.
