Joe Buck, Troy Aikman sign multiyear deals with ESPN to be voices of Monday Night Football



Joe Buck and Troy Aikman, who have teamed together for 20 NFL seasons in the broadcast booth, have signed multiyear agreements to join ESPN as the new voices for Monday Night Football, it was announced Wednesday.The duo, who both have been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, will also contribute content to ESPN+."When you have the opportunity to bring in the iconic, longest-running NFL broadcasting duo, you take it, especially at a time when we are on the cusp of a new era in our expanding relationship with the NFL," said Jimmy Pitaro, Disney's chairman of ESPN and sports content. "The NFL continues to ascend, and we now have more games than ever before, providing additional opportunities for Joe, Troy and our deep roster of commentators." In 2022, Buck and Aikman will match the legendary broadcasting duo of Pat Summerall and John Madden with their 21st season together in the booth.

Cleveland Browns out of running to trade for Deshaun Watson, now face decision on Baker Mayfield, source says


The Cleveland Browns were informed Thursday that they are no longer in the running to land Deshaun Watson in a trade with the Houston Texans, a team source told ESPN. Browns officials met with Watson on Tuesday in Houston and attempted to persuade the quarterback to waive his no-trade clause to play for them. But Watson instead eliminated the Browns from contention, leaving the New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons as the remaining known contenders for Watson. The Browns will now have to decide whether they will attempt to reconcile with Mayfield, or trade the 2018 No. 1 overall draft pick and try to acquire another quarterback. A team source said the Browns' preference would be to still move forward with Mayfield.

Source: Washington Commanders agree to terms with free-agent OL Andrew Norwell



The Washington Commanders filled a hole at guard, agreeing to terms with free agent Andrew Norwell on Thursday, according to a source close to the situation. He is expected to arrive at Washington's facility later in the day. Terms were not yet disclosed. Washington lost both starting guards this week; it cut left guard Ereck Flowers on Wednesday, and right guard Brandon Scherff signed a free-agent deal with Jacksonville. Norwell played for Washington coach Ron Rivera from 2014 to '17 with the Carolina Panthers before signing with Jacksonville. He started nine games as a rookie and then became Carolina's full-time starter at left guard for the next three years before signing with the Jaguars. He has started 111 games.

The Rams and Mathew Stafford have reached agreement on a four-year, $160 million extension that includes $135 million guaranteed and should allow the veteran quarterback to finish his career in Los Angeles, sources tell ESPN's Adam Schefter. Stafford is cashing in on his spectacular debut season with the Rams after 12 seasons with the Detroit Lions , who traded the 2009 No. 1 overall pick to Los Angeles a year ago. Stafford would be 38 years old in the final season of the extension. Stafford never won a playoff game in 12 seasons with the Lions. Stafford set a franchise record with 4,886 yards passing in the 17-game regular season, and he tied Kurt Warner's team mark with 41 touchdown passes while leading the Rams to the NFC West title.
