Veteran wide receiver Julio Jones has a new home, signing a one-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Wednesday. The seven-time Pro Bowler gives soon-to-be 45-year-old Tom Brady another weapon in Tampa, Florida, as Jones looks to rebound from a down season with the Tennessee Titans. The Titans released Jones in March, just one season after acquiring him in a trade from the Falcons. Three things NFL should adopt from USFL, including running clock after incomplete passes depending on quarter
Similar to the 1980s version, the modern-day USFL has several policies that makes it a little different than the NFL. The NFL eventually adopted some of the original USFL's policies, such as instant replay and the two-point conversion. Like they did before, the NFL would be wise to consider adopting some of the USFL's current policies in order to improve both the fan experience as well as the on-field product.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes: Specific criticism of Black quarterbacks 'weird'

Patrick Mahomes said he read about the study clause inserted into Kyler Murray's contract and heard the criticism of his own play and that of other Black quarterbacks. Mahomes said he wouldn't go as far as to say Black quarterbacks are evaluated differently than their white counterparts. But he did say he found it interesting that only Black quarterbacks are subject to certain types of criticism. In a recent story in The Athletic, an unnamed NFL defensive coordinator said Mahomes' game falls apart when he is forced to go beyond his first read. However, Mahomes otherwise received glowing reviews from other coaches in the piece and was ranked as the No. 2 quarterback in the NFL. Jackson in the same story was called less than a top level quarterback, also by an unnamed defensive coach, yet was still ranked as the 10th best signal caller in the league.

NFL strips Miami Dolphins of 2023 first-round pick, fines Stephen Ross $1.5M for tampering with Tom Brady, Sean Payton

The NFL notified the Miami Dolphins on Tuesday that the team would be stripped of its 2023 first-round pick, among other disciplinary measures, for violations of league policies relating to the integrity of the game. Following a six-month investigation, the league found the Dolphins -- primarily team owner Stephen Ross and vice chairman/limited partner Bruce Beal -- violated the anti-tampering policy on three occasions from 2019 to 2022 in conversations with quarterback Tom Brady and the agent for then-New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton. In addition to the first-round pick, the Dolphins also will forfeit their 2024 third-round selection./size]

Judge: Lawyers for Brian Flores, others may not gather more evidence before decision on whether lawsuit will be sent to arbitration

A judge on Thursday made it likely that she'll rule in weeks rather than months whether NFL commissioner Roger Goodell gets to decide the merits of racial discrimination claims made by Black coaches against the league and its teams, saying an effort to gather more evidence seems like "an impermissible fishing expedition.'' U.S. District Judge Valerie Caproni said in a written ruling that lawyers for coaches Brian Flores, Steve Wilks and Ray Horton may not gather additional evidence from defendants to support their arguments that the lawsuit in Manhattan federal court should remain in court rather than be sent to arbitration. Flores, who was fired in January as head coach of the Miami Dolphins andand is now an assistant coach with the Pittsburgh Steelers, filed the lawsuit in February, saying the league was "rife with racism" even as it publicly condemns it. The other coaches later joined the lawsuit, which sought unspecified damages and class-action status.
