They're just needless glass walls for people to fall through in DRAMATIC STUNTS.


Either that or everyone kept throwing things at the Captain so they had to but up protective walls.
 
They're for HUDs. No reason to have HUDs except for the "ooooh" factor. Which will get old after you see it, ohhhh... twice.
 
They're especially useless as no one aside from the helmsman is really gonna need to be able to look at the screen at the same time as reading flight data. And he doesn't get a heads up at all anyway!
 
Maybe Nero put them there as part of his plan.
 
Trek figures now also come in well hung 12 inchers.
