I took a stance that I believed in to segment some of the topics at TK. Only so far as that all types of posters and all types of posting styles could be accomodated. I am rapidly seeing that this will never fly so instead of pushing something that will just get everyones panties in even more of a twist than they allready are I will re-define it for yall.

The idea was to have blatant spam topics that are in SF thrown in here. They can still be replied to, they can still be made at what ever rate anyone wants but it would allow people who want to discuss topics at TK without wading through a huge number of topics that meant nothing and had no meaning to do so. Now, that's vauge in itself, isn't it? There in lies the problem. How can you define spam in a free for all enviroment?

So, you want to start a bitch fest in SF? Go ahead. Want to make a topic calling Jack an asshole? Go ahead.

That said there is a difference to making a thread calling Jack an asshole and having fifteen threads all calling Jack an asshole. So, the no call out rule? Let's not go for it because it's liable to start more problems than it will solve.

For now, SF is the same as it ever was. But blatant spam (and we ALL know what it is) will go in here once it's becomeing disruptive. It was ALWAYS the plan to be very lenient with this idea anyway. It's all about trying to give TK a bit more focus without undermining what TK is all about in the first place, easier said than done. There will just not be so much of a hardline or absolute nature to it. So just go about your habitual posting style and perhaps try and be a bit more consiensous to the posters here at TK.

But lets face it, TK already has a spam free area. You want to extend it because the spam annoys you. Hell, it annoys everyone to a certain extent. But currently, there's nothing broken. So why call the plumber?

This is a problem on every board that allows anything like the freedom that TK allows. I don't see that you have any choice really but to deal with it on some level. The problem that you will face is that unless all the admins are in equal agreement as to what qualifies is spam, the charge of favortism over one person or group over another will be leveled.

I wish you luck with this and I'll be interested to see if it can be done in a manner to most people's liking.

I know all changes, major and minor, to TK are well-meaning, but maybe you should consult the more senior admins before setting policy.

I can't disagree with anything else you wrote.

Except for the fact that anything you find inappropriate, you'll hurl into The Badlands. I read your discussion with VKD on the matter, and I agree that MF has its own style and it would be wrong to clutter up Daycare, since members sent there can't send PMs and have no recourse but to start threads presenting their case.

Why automatically The Badlands? Why not the BATFANCLUB? It's a spam zone, but it lacks that special artform which is MineField spamming.

You're wrong on that. The changes were not my original idea nor am I the only one involved. That was never the case, and if you think about it, how could it be? I was only one member of pushing the idea into implementation, it's not my baby.

New year, new focus. I think I have pretty much laid it out simply enough. I have been an admin on more than one board and this has NOTHING to do with anything anyway. We had an idea that was all about making TK more enjoyable. There was NO other hidden agenda behind it. Now, The Badlands will stay and that is not my decision, though I do agree with it. I don't run this board, never have, never will. Is there an actual argument to be made with my post and what I am saying in it? There are very few changes anyway and NONE of them are major ones. I am just explaning the re-focus because people are getting whiny about it and I thought I owed it to everyone to explain in simple terms.

That might be half the problem. Take someone with little or no experience at running a forum and give them access to the whole site.

Because that is one of it's purposes.

That was the original purpose behind TK. Open and free speach. Spaming was a necessary evil. But when it got out of hand, "lets create a forum for it!" and the minefield was born and all but a few select forums were declared spam free. Now, because the minefield is a fav amoung a small group of select members, "lets create a new forum for spam and declare even more of the old forums spam free."
