1980 - IBM meets with Microsoft again, to talk in general terms about their planned personal computers. IBM asks if Microsoft will develop some programming language interpreters/compilers for it. Bill Gates agrees to supply BASIC and other software development tools. IBM also asks for CP/M, but Gates says Digital Research would have to supply that. Bill Gates calls Gary Kildall, to arrange a meeting between IBM and Digital Research regarding CP/M.


and the rest, as they say, is history!

Yeah, IBM didn't sign an air-tight enough contract with Gates. Microsoft could have never been had IBM actually done their homework. Gates went on to take Microsoft to levels never before seen in the programming industry. I'm sure whoever was head of IBM around 1985 must've been shitting his pants and beating his head against a wall. I would've been had I GIVEN AWAY THE MOST LUCRATIVE COMPANY IN WORLD HISTORY!

Well look at Apple.

They ousted Steve Jobs, Jobs then develops NextStep, a UNIX like system, and then Apple buys NextStep, thereby bringing Steve-O back into the company as head CEO.
