Photoshop For A Dummy

curiousa2z

Be patient till the last.
I need that.

I am really finding the technical side of photoshop hard for this macbeth poster. I made a photo of gory hands disappear yesterday and had to re-load it from the camera again. :(
I also tried to change the background to look at different effects and then everything went black (which I wanted because i'd like a black background for such a dark play) - but then I couldnt see the layers underneath!

if you were patiently explaining a simple way to get a black background with white text with an inserted logo and a photo, for a poster to a technically-challenged person, using photoshop, what basic steps would you tell her to take?

p.s.

You will always have a free place to stay at the igloo if you help me!

You can click on a layer and drag it lower down in the queue, this might put it to the background, alternativly, the new layers are set to Normal by default, which means solid, you can scroll through various effects, such as darken, which will make the layers underneith show through.

I can help you more tonight when I am actually sat in front of photoshop, and not relying on memory.

thanks, Rich! I'll try this again....you may yet be hearing from me later

I'm by no means as technically well-versed as whisky, but I'm here and I have some time on my hands so....

1. Open PS, choose "New File"
2. Go to the Window Menu, choose "layers", "color range" and "tools" (sorry, I gotta use my own translation skills here, sorry if you get confused ;) )

Your screen should look like this:

3. Now, go the the layers window and create 3 more layers.
4. click on the 1st one at the bottom of the queue and then click "Edit" -> "fill"

5. You can select the black color either directly from the pop-up window or by using the color window you previously opened.
That's your background.

6. Now click on the second-lowest layer in the respective window. Use the "Type" tool and draw yourself a nice frame, choose the white colour from the color window and basically play around as much as you like.

7. Choose the next layer and choose "Place" from the File menu and select the logo you want to add. You can change the dimensions of the logo accordingly.

8. Select the the topmost layer and repeat step 7 for the pic.

Once you've done the above steps, safe the doc and start playing with the PS buttons as much as you like.

Voilà ;)
