Racism on this board....

I live in the south, I'm surrounded by racists of all races.

When I first moved to South Carolina, they still hadn't changed the flags yet.

You'll all be pleased and excited to know I have taken the "N" word out of my vocabulary. I went through a rough patch and made a promise to God...I'm a sucker for the Big Man Upstairs.

I am curiuos to know what sort of "rough patch" but now that you are gone....I guess we will never know.

Is it racist to think they should have been allowed to keep their flag? History can't be erased.

Many see the Confederate flag as a symbol of slavery.

That's all I'm saying.

It's not a symbol of slavery though, it's a symbol of the South's independence. Slavery was an issue, sure, but I think it was more about the states wanting more control than the federal government. I know when my redneck relatives fly it, they're not thinking about slavery, or a return to slavery. They are thinking about drinking beer, and yelling WOOOOOOOO!!! lol.

To make things clear: I don't believe racism is any more prevelant in the south than anywhere else.

There were plenty of racists in my old job (in Idaho).

LOL.. no their ancestors weren't thinking about beer and wooooooo!! I believe the south lost because the north kicked their asses.

I once worked in an office in the mid-west.. almost all of my co-workers were black ladies. We were talking about our families and I said that most of mine lived in Florida. One of the ladies said she wished she lived in Florida or Georgia and I asked her why, and said that they were so racist down there. She told me she preferred racists who were racist to her face instead of behind her back. I hadn't ever thought of it that way.
