Sandwiches

Remeber, it's all in HOW something is cooked. Chicken can be a great source of protien, but if it's fried or baked, it doesn't have the same healthy quality as if it had been grilled.

Most definitely! I like to take my chicken and slowly pan cook it in about a quarter inch of water. Lotsa garlic and onion, slice the chicken open halfway through the cooking and stuff it with chevre, garlic and ground walnuts. A little spice, salt and pepper and OMG.

I can still go to Quizno's? (Happy Dance)

Okay - one of my favorite sandwiches is made from
2 pieces of double fiber wheat - 70 cals, 1.5 fat, 13 carbs, 3 fiber, 0 sugar - x2
a scrambled egg patty - 60 cals, 4 fat, 1 carbs, 0 fiber, 0 sugar
a boca burger - 100 cals, 4.5 fat, 4.5 carbs, 4.5 fiber, 0 sugar
and fat free mayo
I like no fat cheese on the sandwich but looking at the wrapper, even though it is only 2 carbs, it is 2 sugars.
I usually have that with something like
baby brussel sprouts - 50 cals, 0 fat, 9 carbs, 3 fiber, 3 sugar

Total:
350 calories
11.5 grams fat
40.5 grams carbs
13.5 grams fiber
3 grams sugar

That is still 27 carbs after subtracting the fiber from the carbs. Dang.

Oh well - at least I have something solid to work with. My culprit is the carbs.

Thanks for the formula Alyssum

I'm not a huge fan of Arby's, but they have a kickass chicken salad sandwich, with apples and walnuts in it. And absolutely no FUCKING onions.

Use regular cheese and regular mayo..check it out, fat goes up, but no carbs :D and the protein in the mayo and cheese will block the quick release of glycogen from the bread.

Plus it tastes better.

And you're welcome, my dear..

Check this link out and tell me what you think...

here's the formula...
* Serving Size 1 1/2 cups - 2 oz. dry (56g)
* Servings Per Container 5
* Total Calories 140
* Calories From Fat 10
* Total Fat 1g
* Saturated Fat 0g
* Trans Fat 0g
* Cholesterol 10mg
* Sodium 80mg
* Total Carbohydrates 24g
* Dietary Fiber 6g
* Sugars 0g
* Protein 12g

can you believe it? Pasta that starts at 24 grams carbs (most pastas start at 44 with no fiber at all) and then 6 grams of fiber and 12 grams of protein with NO SUGAR!! Net carbs per serving is SIX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and...IT TASTES DELICIOUS. Just use an alfredo sauce instead of a red sauce...read the labels and you'll see what I mean carb wise.

You'll get the hang of this thing pretty quickly Wheezie...it drives my wife crazy, but it's actually a fun challenge, because it CANT BE BORING, it has to be YUMMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111111111

One other tip, burning fat is the same as burning carbs. The first thing the body does metabolically is burn carbs, but if you limit your carbs, it HAS TO BURN THE FAT.

Protein is your friend. So is fat, what you'll discover is most "lowfat" items are high in both carbs and sugar carbs, while "high fat" items aren't and are high in protein at the same time. Just eat lots of veggies too and get some aerobic exercise every day and you'll be amazed at how easy it really is.

Pasta/italian food in general is the ewwww!
Everythingggggg is so damn rich, i don't understand how pple eat it :(

I eat low fat because since I lost my gallbladder I don't process fat well. High fat foods go right through me - literally like a bird - and I nearly starve to death.

Wait - you subtract the protein grams from the carb grams too? There are 26 combined protein grams in my egg and veggie patty sandwich above - which means it counts as 1. One is a very good number. Yeah!!! Can't have it too often because of the egg, but at least it can be a fairly regular menu item.

I'm going to use your formula when I go grocery shopping again. I could probably get away with 65 grams of fat. I'll also pay more attention to the carbs minus fiber and protein.

I called my Doc's nurse about getting a meter the other day. She said not to worry about that until after we meet on the 12th and they check my blood sugar again. All I know is I feel pretty good and I'm actually getting some sleep. Now, when I'm up in the middle of the night it is because I want to be, not because I can't lay down anymore.

I had been doing aqua aerobics 3 times a week up until I started hurting - it felt like I'd broken my foot. I'm looking forward to going back to the pool next week.

When I win the lottery I'm going to hire someone to take charge of what I eat - fix meals that are in all the right numbers and still are very tasty.

Uh oh - that low carb site is chock full of stuff - could spend a small fortune there. I'm going to go to Whole Foods and see what they have. I know my normal grocery store has products recommended as diabetic friendly.

Most nights I fix a meal for just me so I either eat a packaged frozen dinner or a sandwich with some veggies on the side. Used to have orange juice for breakfast and frequently no-fat cottage cheese with fruit for dinner.

This is just too much thinking about what I eat that has nothing to do with how good it tastes.

Cottage cheese = bad. So's yogurt. Sour cream - good. No you dont subtract protein grams, just the higher the protein grams and the lower the sugar grams the SLOWER it releases into the bloodstream. Must conserve the pancreas. see after the gall bladder goes the pancreas.

My absolute favorite sandwich though is
tuna with mayo
lettuce
tomatoes
black olives
cheddar and provolone cheese
a little ranch dressing
and pepper
on toasted wheat roll

Can you modify that so it is similar in taste but fits the numbers?

I've recently learned that gluten and I don't get along that well, so that's been fun trying to go through every single FUCKING food on the shelf and find what I can and can't eat. Gluten is in tons of things, and of course, everything I like.

I've been eating a lot of sushi lately. The fish....<g>

Should be PERFECT :D use high fiber bread, like arnolds double fiber, and you should be fine. Limit the tomato slices to one thin one if you dont mind too much, but a samwich like that is just fine :D

I'd eat sushi with you anytime :D

Pay attention to the mixture of wheat and eggs. Basically, you're gonna have to almost completely eliminate all wheat-based carbs. That includes beer. But, since I know you've got a thing for necking a black cherry vodka and you like buttery nipples every once-in a while, I don't think you'll be missing much.
