Sausage wrapped up in bacon?

How long do you think it was after the invention of both foodstuffs that someone thought of wrapping sausages up in bacon?

I think it was soon after. Someone woke up early one day and was out of salt licks.

"Pigs in Blankets" used to be a literal expression, as back in the early Christmas meals sleeping with a pig was considered "an acceptible subsitute" for Christmas pudding.

I either have sausage, or bacon, or ham, with my eggs.

But mixing the pig parts together seems like overkill to me.
