Maybe to show the world that if they declare independence, they won't be doing so in order to become some backwoods feudal state, forcing its citizens to go back to their DJARAS, where Alan Cumming would end up a plumber.

Just think, in the next 20 years none of this will be shocking, will just be like a typical day of shopping at the super market....nobody around to make it into a big deal.
 
Just an FYI

Byrne created the Canadian team Alpha Flight including Northstar. Byrne said he intended to have Jean Paul come out back in the 1980′s but it was against editorial policy at the time and the comics code authority. In 1992 Northstar came out in Alpha Flight #106 under writer Scott Lobdell.
