Entertainment Weekly just did an online article about men in Hollywood cradle-robbing, both in films and in real life.

The general consensus is that women go for these older guys because their wealth and power makes them sexy; it has very little, if anything, to do with their physical appearance.

It's interesting that men are deemed "shallow" for being somewhat obsessed with looks, while women aren't taken to task for desiring father-figure types.
