Sherlock series 2

I watched Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes sequel yesterday. Was pretty okay. Bit slow in the middle (literally, there was far too much slow motion during an extended action scene.) Jared Harris was a good Moriarty and we got to see Stephen Fry's bare arse.

I knew the Americans were going to have a hard time with his name:

Washington Post - got it off twitter, I didn't find it.

Here's a look at Elementary!

Yeah, doesn't really look much like Sherlock Holmes at all. Just looks like any standard eccentric detective show (though of course all those eccentric detective shows owe everything to Sherlock Holmes.) They could have called the two main characters anything. Doesn't look interesting anyway.

Though I have to laugh at all the BBC Sherlock fans in the comments section saying things like "THIS ISN'T THE SAME AS SHERLOCK." I bet most of them haven't read even one Arthur Conan Doyle Holmes story, LET ALONE ALL OF THEM LIKE I HAVE.

"This is definitely a gender change for what's historically been known as Dr. John Watson..."

Well I'm glad she's sure about it!

Yup, looks pretty lame. I liked the strangling dialogue, but the "here's how it happened" lines were quite weak.

There even seemed to be a "will they or won't they?" type look between Holmes and Watson when he was in the jail cell.

Hey folks, we've already got a good American adaptation of Sherlock Holmes. It's called House M.D.

As for the gender-blending of Watson's role. fuck that shit. As I mentioned in Tis' Sherlock thread, the X-Files did that WAY better nearly 20 years ago.

I could also go on to say that I kinda hated the new RDJ Sherlock movie. WHY ARE YOU WEARING AN ELECTRONIC EARPIECE ASSHOLE!?

That aside, I adore the new BBC series. If you go on the (un?)official sherlock facebook page, they talk about some crazy guy who did a frame-by-frame of the end of The Reichenbach Fall (wonderfully witty title, btw). Anyway, if I were less lazy, I'd go find the link, but his theory on how Sherlock faked his death is fucking hysterical.

Yep, I've got my theories, but with how this show has been going, I'm not even gonna try.

Oh, on that whole Downton Abbey thing... Here's the full quote, which has been blown way out of context.

Benedict Cabbagepatch said:
Though his Holmes is meant to be lacking in social graces, Mr. Cumberbatch rejected a popular interpretation that the character has Asperger syndrome.

“He’s a high-functioning sociopath,” he said. “He has a general disregard for standard codes of conduct, pleasantries, niceties. He wants to cut to the chase. He wants everything to be faster and better and purer.”

Mr. Cumberbatch could at least relate to this aspect of the character. He recalled an encounter he’d had in January at the Golden Globe Awards, where the PBS “Masterpiece” executive producer Rebecca Eaton taunted him affectionately with a trophy that had just been won by “Downton Abbey.”

He said: “I just looked at it and went: ‘Begone, woman. Bring it back when it says “Sherlock Holmes” or Steven Moffat or myself — someone else who’s more deserving than the second series of “Downton Abbey.” ’ ”

Exhibiting a diplomacy that his Holmes is not known for, Mr. Cumberbatch stopped himself from saying anything more about the rival television series.

“I know too many people who are in it,” he said. “I thought the first series was good. That’s what I’ll say.”

The whole interview, which is pretty funny to read.

Leave it to Americans to misinterpret dry, sarcastic, British wit.

The popular interpretation of him having Arseburgers was also brought up by Watson, though I suppose he could've just been being sarcastic.

It's a simple case of ignorant mob vs intellectual minority. The ignorant mob, who took Ben Cum's quote out of context, like Downton abbey. It's numbers are double that of Sherlock. Then, we, the minority, are forced to listen to their ignorant babblings.

What I'm more confused about is why everyone automatically jumps to asperger. Sherlock is obviously spectrum, but not asperger.
