Just use an emulator (can't be bothered to google, but there must be some?), then you don't have to worry about your N64 dying.

Ya, there are emulators. Or you can buy it for 10$ on the Wii's Virtual Console. Or you can wait 6 months and buy it in 3D when Star Fox 64 3D comes out for 3DS.
