It's weird when you see actual humans amongst the blue people and remember this is a live action movie.

Avatar: Fire and Ash (2025) - There was 13 years between the first two Avatar movies. They both made insane amounts of money. There was just 3 years between the second and third. The third is still something like the 18th highest grossing movie of all time, yet its box office has to be considered a disappointment as it grossed something like £900 million less than the second movie. I think relative closeness in release dates is part of the reason for that: people had 13 years to wonder "how good will the new Avatar movie look with more modern technology!?" Turns out it looked really good! But with just 3 years between the second and third movie, I don't think there was enough time for people to build up a rabid appetite for Avatar again. And probably the bigger problem is that this isn't really much different from Way of the Water. All the environments are the same. It continues the same character threads. The big third act setpiece involves flying stuff (like the first movie) and water stuff (like the second.) When I heard the movie was titled FIRE AND ASH I was expecting a big evil volcano or something? But there's really little new. The movie also spends a lot of time on the Spider character and, frankly, I don't think the actor is good enough to justify that time.
The absolute best stuff in this one is the Evil Army Guy and his relationship with the Evil Red Na'Vi Girl. Doing drugs and shooting guns together and such. That should have taken up a lot more of the movie and I liked Jake Sully pointing out how Evil Army Guy is mirroring Sully's own journey to becoming "awake" or however they put it. The problem is the movie basically just keeps the status quo going. Evil Army Guy doesn't turn good and just jumps into some flames but obviously doesn't die. Sexy Red Evil Na'vi just runs away, or something? It really feels like Cameron had one long script for the second movie and he just cut it in two, then added lots of kidnappings and escapes to pad out the script for this one.
It still looks incredible, of course, with long continuous all CGI shots that look completely clean and believable. So that's nice!
