Movies Some movies watched in 2026

Nonsense! They just needed to send the sheep to Miss Porter's Charm School for lessons in refined human behavior, and then Sheep Stunt School for the physical part, and then THE BAAAAAAACTORS STUDIO narf!
 
Enola Holmes 3 (2026) - Yeah so it's the third of the (I guess successful since they keep making them!) series of movies with Millie Bobby Brown as Sherlock's much younger sister who solves crimes too and looks at the camera to talk to the audience sometimes. This one's set in Malta, I guess because it's cheap to film there, or something? To be fair there is a plot about the British Emprie and its history of covering up war crimes, so young viewers might learn some things from it. Sharon Duncan Brewster returns as Moriarty (despite the movie being quite socially aware they don't really acknowledge Moriarty being a black lady) and I think she does a great job as what could have just been a one note cackling villain. I mean, she still cackles a lot but you feel there's something behind the cackling. Enola is getting married to her foppish boy but Sherlock is kidnapped and stuff happens. It's fine. If you found the previous two tolerable you'll feel the same about this.
 
The Housemaid (2025) - Based on a book which was very popular on "booktok" - which, and this may be unfair, gives me the impression that it was a book for people who don't read many books - this was a big hit late last year, starring Sydney Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried and Some Guy. And It's...okay, I guess. The first hour or so I didn't think much of. Sweeney just kind of floats around looking a bit sleepy. Seyfried is much better but I guess she has more fun stuff to play as she's the "crazy" one (but there'a twist!) The best part by far is when it switches perspective to Seyfried for a while as Amanda Seyfried FUCKING RULES and if the whole movie had been the story of her character I would have liked it a lot more. Sweeney does get a bit better once she gets to show emotion and has some good moments, but the main guy is just a handsome robot even after we find out his secret. I felt like it could have stood to be a bit more camp as there are a few funny moments but maybe not enough. The plot barely holds together too and I'm sure you could find eighty seven PLOT HOLES if you wanted to. It was worth watching for me as an Amanda Seyfried fan as she is really really fantastic in it - Sweeney is nice to look at too, but let's just say they're really lucky they managed to get Amanda in the movie as it would not have been entertaining at all otherwise.

Masters of the universe 2026, I really liked it, they don't stay on earth too long, and there is a nice cameo (or two) in their.

Also a very well timed Queen song.
 
Masters Of The Universe (2026) - Pretty good overall, but some scenes went on too long and they repeated the same jokes a few times too many (Adam mentions "conflict resolution" or something and everyone goes "huh?") Alison Brie and Idris Elba I thought were very good at hitting the right tone. Adam I think was a tad too silly, like I thought he was going to become more of an inspiring leader by the end but he didn't really. Did he have an adopted family on Earth? It's all kind of skipped over. "Fisto" will always be funny and I liked Cringer looking into the camera at the end when they were all doing the throw your head back and laugh thing. Skeletor has no backstory at all but I guess that's the point as he is just an evil skull guy (and it was funny when he was a gym bro and stuff.) It was nice all the characters looked just like the toys. I think it flopped because it's really not going to appeal to anyone but 45 to 55 year old men who remember the original.

4 Non Blondes was a good deepcut joke.

 
Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026)

Sinners (2025) - You probably heard about it before so I won't bother recapping the plot or anything. I liked the use of music and the best scene was where the young black guy was playing his song and it was connecting with the past and future and it was cool. The river-dancing vampires were quite scary too. I'm sure there's been lots of talk already about the pacing because the first half is SLOW. Like it really establishes the setting the mood and everything and that's nice but you'll be wondering when it's actually going to turn into a horror movie. And even when it does it feels a bit more like an action movie than horror when the vampires are flying around and getting staked and stuff (there is a lot of blood though.) Some very nice looking shot composition. I felt some scenes were a little repetitive especially when the vampires have already been well established and characters are still saying things like "this can't be real!" and asking for the rules of vampires to be explained. Michael B. Jordan was very good as the two main characters and obviously I always like seeing Hailee Steinfeld and she does sexy things. The Irish vampire guy was very good too. I liked it overall but there are parts where I felt a bit bored? Trying to find actual honest discussion on it on the internet is hard because every thread I've found breaks down to people saying "you only liked it because it was black/only hated it because it was black!" type boredom.

It's good, it's short, he's a little too indestructible, but that's par for the course.

Weapons (2025) - Horror/thriller/kind of comedy that won Oscars and stuff. I liked the director's previous movie Barbarian and enjoyed this too. It's kind of similar in that it keeps switching perspective and (for a while at least) keeps you guessing as to what the fuck is going on. Starts out with 17 school children going missing and a shocked town reacting a month later. But don't expect it to dwell that much on how a town would react to such a thing as it just keeps getting crazier as it goes. With Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Benedict Wong and the other Han Solo with the hard to spell name,, but the award winning actor was (spoiler) Amy Madigan as the villain (I won't give more away!) I'll be honest I'd never heard for her before but she was great here. The final scene is something you might have heard talk of and it is very satisfying/brutal/funny. I recommend it!
 
Drive-Away Dolls (2024) - Look, I knew this was badly received. But it was on tv so I recorded it. And it starts two actresses I like (Margaret Qualley and Geraldine Viswanathan) and only lasts 80 minutes. So how bad could it be, really? Ethan Coen directs and is obviously going for a b-movie feel. It is incredibly dumb but knows it's dumb. Ultimately, though, it just wasn't funny enough. I laughed a few times towards the end when the "plot" was revealed (Colman Domingo's big speech being the funniest part.) Most of it is just "look, lesbians!" and I'm not really shocked by lesbians existing and talking about sex. It's nice that kind of stuff can be in a movie, but it's still directed by a straight man (and co-written by his wife who claims to be a lesbian despite having two children with her male husband...yeah, I just looked that up.) I don't think it's the worst thing ever, or anything, at least it's a bit weird and quirky and not totally boring I do not recommend that anyone should ever watch it though.
