Do you want the real answer or a smartass one? The real answer is, the game we call football was already being played here before the other "football" (soccer) came here. To distinguish between the two, people in the US began referring to the new sport by the shortened form of what the British called "Association Football" or "Soccer."

For those who advocate scrapping Fahrenheit for Celsius, it's equally laughable. They are both equally arbitrary. The most accurate thing to switch to would be Kelvin.
 
It terms of temperature, I agree. Fuck them both.

In all other instances, Metric pwnz Standard.
