It bothers me still that someone found his old body wherever he laid down and died.

They wouldn't have known him.

They'd have just seen an old, ugly, dead dog.

They might have thrown him in the trash or called animal services to remove the remains.

Animal services doesn't keep track of animals like that. They'd have just brought his carcass back to the pound and thrown him into the incinerator.

I'd have buried him in the backyard with a marker.

But old cats and dogs do that.

They are ready to go so they just walk off to be by themselves.

Even after all these years I still ask people in the neighborhood if they saw my dog.
