Just read the final issue, and it's making not dread the movie a little.
Romulas being destroyed was a pretty ballsy move, as was almost killing Worf (although him on the bridge of the Nerada looking for Nero was pretty cool).
But what I liked best is that Spock and Nero's travel through time was both:
A) A one-shot thing (falling into a technobabble black hole what was sealing up a technobabble supernova)
and
B) Accidental
Which makes a few things make sense, like the "Of course the big question is if NERO has a time machine why doesn't he just go back and save Romulus?" question.
Oh yeah, I guess it does. Nero's rage against Spock and the Federation still didn't make total sense to me though. It was really the Romulans who were to blame for not abandoning the planet. But I guess he couldn't realy take his rage out on them because they were all dead.
Interesting that the comic didn't end with Picard and Data ceasing to exist or changing due to the changes in the timeline...I guess they do intend for their to be two different but "canon" timelines now.
Yeah well Nero's hatred of Vulcan was just because they wouldn't help save Romulus, but then they changed their minds after Romulus went bye-bye (WHAT HAPPENED TO REMUS?????).
But at least we know the meaning behind his tattoos and his pointy stick thing and his wibbly-wobbly squid ship.
