They could always use greenscreen and CGI for the majority of backgrounds, as they did for Sanctuary and Battlestar Galactica's Blood and Chrome spinoff. Both worked pretty well visually (not sure if they hampered the acting) and presumably cut costs.
 
Star trek canada, here we come.
 
They could have a lot of episodes set in caves.
 
I've already read about 30 Trek/Yeoh puns at AV Club alone.
 
Specifically, Deadline’s sources state that her character’s name will be Han Bo and she will captain the U.S.S. Shenzhou, a vessel that will “play a big role in Discovery’s first season.”

So she isn't the captain of the Discovery probably who knows.
 
I wonder if that's supposed to be an all-Chinese ship?

Like there was the all-Vulcan ship Intrepid in TOS.
 
For races that make up a third of the worlds population, there really arent that many chinese and indians on star trek.
 
They're all in the Beta Quadrant.
 
Variety story

[Michelle] Yeoh, whose addition to the cast was reported last week by Variety, will play Captain Georgiou, the Starfleet captain aboard the starship Shenzhou.​

Shenzhou is China's version of the Soyuz, and the name translates as something like "Magic Boat" or "Divine Vessel of God."
 
I just watched Gravity the other night, as Sandra Bullock bounced from the ISS to the Soyuz to the Shinzhou.
 
That whole movie was a wild violation of orbital mechanics. :p
