Star Wars 3d

Anyone going to watch them?

This was briefly discussed on CNN the other day. Apparently Lucas will release them in order...so i guess that means the prequels will be first.

Not sure if I will go see them, but would definitely (maybe) buy the dvd's when made available. I did hear Lucas may be fucking with the films again before the 3d release...like there was any doubt.

What's the point? The first one is lame, the second is good in places, and the third - well, I enjoyed it for all its faults, but do I need to see it again in a slightly different format so soon after its original release? Nah.

I probably will go to see at least one, but if Lucas wants to cash in on 3D, don't be so fucking lazy as to stick it on top of what already exists, you cheap bastard.

Also: I have yet to see a movie in 3D. Cinema has worked incredibly well for over 100 years without it. The sooner this dies, the better.

I'd watch the original trilogy in 3D just to see how it turns out, but I don't really have an interest in watching Episode 1 in any format in the cinema. 3D movies cost a lot to watch on the big screen, so I'm not going to pay a lot to watch a movie I've already seen several times and don't particularly like.

The 3D effect should be pretty well done, though, as it's being handled by John Knoll (who helped invent Photoshop and is responsible for some of the best special effects ever). Better than other 3D conversions like the Clash of the Titans one which was a disaster.

I'll probably be dead by the time they come out. And they'll probably digitally edit out Natalie's nipples from Episode 2.

Thats the only bit that actually warrents the 3d

George? Hi. How ya doin'?

Listen, crazy idea I just had -- hear me out, just brainstorming here -- what if you maybe stopped skull-fucking the Star Wars universe for 5 minutes, and made a new, original movie that has nothing to do with the franchise? I KNOW, INSANE, RIGHT? Talk to Speilberg about this, he can give you some tips. He managed to make a few different things in between Indy movies.

'K? Cool! Thanks! :)

Why are they all from Episode 2 (except the one from Episode 3.)

These ones are better!

Yes! I like how appreciation of the Separatist leaders has grown over the years. And lightsabres are a good number one. But no Ewoks or Chewie? FURRY RACISM?

Umm, yeah, Star Wars in 3D, that'll be something.

The sound design in AotC was interesting and I've always really liked the sonic charge effect, but they all sound very much as though they were designed by the same person, using the same software (as they probably were). They're also really over the top and are cool for the sake of it, rather than sounding believable, and being cool in the process.

I liked how in the original star wars, the sound of a blaster was just someone banging a tight wire with a spanner.

Honestly, you lot are a right bunch of techno luddites, considering both Whisky and Fuddle are brilliant at using high end graphic software.

I never said I didnt like the new sound effects, I just apreciated the simplicity of some of the originals.

Although Vaders TIE fighter is too ovbiously a formula one car.

Ben Burtt may be a shit editor and is terrible on audio commentaries, but the man can create the best sound effects in the world.

The best bit* in Return Of The Jedi is when 3PO is telling the story so far to the ewoks and doing all the sound effects.

*Apart from all the other best bits.

I see the sound design in the same light as the visual effects. In the original trilogy they're imaginative and exciting, but manage not to take over or distract from the story. Instead, they're a seamless part of the whole. While in the prequels, the sounds, and of course the CG effects in particular, take over and to some degree replace the story, dialogue and acting. The problem isn't with what technology was used, it's with Lucas's insistence on style over substance.

WELL I LIKE IT.

Of course you could argue that the SFX were the same throughout, it's just the lowered story, dialogue and acting quality in the prequels made you notice it more.

I mean with Star Wars you can't get too nit-picky about the sounds, because they're all made up sounds for all made up things.

If you want to talk about bad audio problems in the prequel trilogy, talk about the terrible music editing.

Well even I noticed the AOTC score was edited together about five minutes before the movie came out.
