Actually, getting clean would make life easier for those at the bottom.
The idea of breaking the law obviously is no concern for these people (certainly wasn't for me in HS & College). Maybe the threat of losing their sit at home check will motivate them.
Hell, might even motivate them to get a job that doesn't drug test. Sounds like a win win for everyone!

(won't even mention the "War on Drugs", which I was an active participant in in the late 80's...)
On the other hand: I'd support a drug screen. If the purpose is "safety net" not "subsidy for life", the drugs are going to interfere with the person's rise back into society.

I don't like drug tests. To get a job, that incidentally was an absolute no brainer, they required drug testing. As it happens, I am one of the few people who can pass, even a HAIR, drug test. Hell, I can even pass an alchohol test. So I took the test, with results so clean, the techs wanted to drink my urine to get at the vitamins. Guess what? No job. It was a ruse. This is a small town, and I became alarmed. What if they wanted to swap out my perfection for one of their druggie friends?

I don't like them either (and I'm in the same boat, I have LONG hair and can pass any test they throw at me). It's insulting. However, the world being what it is...not everyone is as honest as I am, and I don't want someone's habit getting in the way of being a productive employee.
And as I said before, I don't want it getting in the way of someone getting themselves back into society. We are "paying" them to re-train and become tax-payers again.

Sadistic. You missed the point. The job was a no brainer. Any retard will do. They had no business demanding anyone,good, in the first place. It's just something I would do for money, that's all. And I let them know that. I am under no obligation to give ego boosting to the short bus. If my fellow employees are drug addled, I could care less. They might even bring something interesting, to an otherwise brainless endeavor. They're no friends of mine.
