Supernatural: is it worth watching?

I hear good things about the show, but I've never watched it. Is it worth d/l the seasons to watch (after I get through the final seasons of The Shield and The Wire)?

Seen a few episodes from the first season. It's not bad. The creator said one of his major influences was Neil Gaimans Sandman but I didn't get that sense from the few episodes I saw.

I might watch some more though.

The horrbily unimaginative generic name put me off from ever watching, even though it has Jensen "fit as fuck" Ackles in it.
