Because they steal customers from all the local businesses in the area and make it impossible for them to stay in business. Then the chains manage to pay workers less, bust unions, deny health benefits, and generally cause blight and malaise in nice, unassuming towns.

I haven't had Taco Bell in years. My willingness to submit myself to a fast food chain is in direct relation to its proximity to me in walking distance. Luckily there's no Taco Bell close enough to my house. In fact, I get all my take-out from local restaurants and diners. I'm a happy pappy in that respect.
 
Local isn't always better.

I honestly don't see the point in telling McDonald's (for example) they can't be in ones town.

I agree, we just have the one McDonald's in our village( and yes I live in a village, its so tiny there's rumour it may get re-classified as a hamlet). I wish we had more chain stores/malls closer than Vermont or Albany.

I don't live in England anymore, but i have never seen them anywhere in Europe, btw next time u use a metaphor how about using something comparable to ur life experience else you just cum off a cunt
 
Yes, its very nice. Probably could have made it about sex sooner though if I had made a joke about the chain stores being the whips and chain store variety. Or if Ily/ILC had posted in this thread.

I love it when you go on vacation with a person and you've flown a thousand miles or driven a couple hundred miles and you end up eating at a chain store. The whole point of going on vacation to that small town in main is to try the worlds finest fish dinner, or that awesome bbq joint in Texas or that place that everyone has been talking about in Seattle.
You can't just get it anywhere.

But I know your point too. You like the comfort of the known. You are in a strange town, don't know where to eat, what to do, you see a starbucks or a McDonalds or Jack in the Box and you feel relieved. You know their sandwiches will most likely be consistent with what you are used to.
