This is Mariner 10. It was the first probe to explore the planet Mercury - which it did WAY back in 1974.

Now you may ask, "Now Charlemagne, what in God's name does THIS have to do with sports?" The answer? Not a Goddamn thing. It's just that this little tidbit of information is still infinitely more useful and worth sharing than whatever the fuck Blackfoot tries doing in this forum.

President Donald Trump says he'll attend Game 5 of World Series
President Donald Trump says he is planning to attend the World Series on Sunday if it goes to a fifth game. The president confirmed his plans Thursday while presenting the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Roger Penske, a businessman and founder of one of the world's most successful motorsports teams.

.
Other presidents who attended World Series game were Woodrow Wilson (1915), Calvin Coolidge (1924), Herbert Hoover (1929, 1930, 1931), Franklin Roosevelt (1933, 1936), Dwight Eisenhower (1956), Jimmy Carter (1979) and Ronald Reagan (1983).

The Nationals pulled to within two wins of a title in one wacky inning
Houston did something Wednesday night that for any other team would have registered as benign. Juan Soto, the 20-year-old wunderkind who hits cleanup for Washington, was due up. With first base open and runners on second and third, the Astros intentionally walked him. For 173 games between the regular season and the playoffs, Houston had not issued a single intentional walk. But this was the top of the seventh inning in Game 2 of the World Series, when nothing made sense.

Houston Astros vs. Washington Nationals

Astros' pen delivers, Nats waste chances -- and now we have a series
The first World Series in the nation's capital in 86 years won't exactly go down as a classic contest to remember. The Astros will enjoy their 4-1 victory Friday, which included baserunners all over the place, some magical 68 mph curveballs from Zack Greinke and a Houston bullpen that tossed 4⅓ scoreless innings, and means we won't see the first World Series sweep since 2012.

How the Astros just gave this World Series a shot at greatnes
The 115th World Series became a series Friday night. The Houston Astros, AWOL for the first two games, served notice they were no happy-to-be-here pushovers. Win Game 4 and there is a path to mirror the 1999 New York Yankees, who lost the first two games of the World Series in the Bronx before pummeling the Atlanta Braves in four straight.
