The Avengers to be directed by... Joss Whedon

Plus they might not all be assholes trying to get the most screentime and instead just want to work together to make a good movie? I've seen comments from Robert Downey and Chris Evans talking about how much they're enjoying working with Whedon and they both seem like cool guys and Chris Hemsworth isn't really a big star yet so probably won't be making unreasonable demands. Plus they already got rid of Ed Norton (which is a shame) and Joss is quite good at handling team based things.

The Avengers 2 to be directed by... Joss Whedon
Joss Whedon will suit up once more to write and direct the sequel to The Avengers, according to Disney chairman Bob Iger.

During a conference call about Disney’s quarterly earnings, Iger revealed that Whedon would return for the second installment of the film that has grossed nearly $1.5 billion worldwide since opening just over three months ago. Iger also said Whedon is developing a live-action TV series based in the Marvel universe, but had no further details.

More coming soon…

Obviously this is the part where I go "what role could Michelle Trachtenberg play?" because that's the kind of person I am.

Fantastic news. The only question is, will he be able to surpass the first? I'm not sure, but I don't doubt that he'll at least match it.

What would everyone like to see in it and how should it be differentiated from the first?

I'm not really bothered about the plot (in terms of it following story arcs from comics, since I don't read them), but I hope we'll see more like the scenes where everyone was in Bruce Banner's lab having a debate. Even though they were talking about fantastical things, it was an unusually believable and mature scene for a Marvel superhero movie.

I hear Marvel are negotiating the rights back to the silver surfer and galacticus from Fox.

So that might be a hint of things to come.

EXCLUSIVE: ABC has ordered a pilot for S.H.I.E.L.D, a live-action series from The Avengers writer-director Joss Whedon, Marvel TV and ABC Studios. The project is based on Marvel’s peacekeeping organization S.H.I.E.L.D (which stands for Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistics Directorate or Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division) found in both the Marvel comic book and feature film universes, including the blockbuster 2012 movie The Avengers, in which S.H.I.E.L.D director Nick Fury, recruits Iron Man, Captain America, the Hulk, and Thor to stop Thor’s adoptive brother Loki from subjugating Earth.

S.H.I.E.L.D. will be written by Whedon and frequent collaborators, his brother Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen. Joss Whedon also is set to direct the pilot, schedule permitting. Production on the pilot, which marks the first live-action Marvel TV project to get a green light, will start immediately. Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon and Tancharoen executive produce with Jeffrey Bell and Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb.

I hope it gets picked up!

(Starring Carole Danvers)

Well Carole Danvers seems likely to be in the Guardians Of The Galaxy movie so she probably won't be in this.

Remember how Victor from Dollhouse was in The Avengers as a cop? He could decide to join SHIELD.
