There have been a lot of accusations, speculations, and curiosity surrounding the leak in the Shelter.
This person sought me out and gave me permission to read their PMs after several other staff members stepped forward when I commented that the only way to confirm a leak was to read PMs. You must note that I did not ask, nor did I demand that the staff give their permission. These people volunteered their permission without even the slightest hint of coercion. Before that point in time, reading anyone’s PMs to verify this hadn’t crossed my mind. I was simply answering a question about how we could catch someone if there was a leak.
I found evidence that this person had shared information they shouldn't have. Now many of you will undoubtedly think is a small thing, as the Shelter has releases. But it is also well known some things are not released, including personal information. A person on staff has agreed by taking the position to also exercise discretion and act in a trustworthy manner.
Now this information is pretty damning, and gives us probable cause to believe this person has been up to no good. But, it is also ambiguous enough that there is no way to know for certain how much information has been compromised.
After much thought, I have decided the best course of action is the one already taken. The person is no longer in a position of trust and will never again be in a position of trust. But, since the extent of the leak is not known at this time, it would be unfair to release their name for public ridicule.
You are free to believe what you want, including that there was no leak or "mole." But, this is the gospel, and like it or not, you're just going to have to trust me.
